A few weeks back, I was out at Fort deSoto park here in Florida. I was just sitting on the back tail gate of my Isuzo Rodeo when I saw a very green laser like streak go through the sky toward the water? It looked like a meateorite falling, which isn't uncommon to see on dark nights... but a GREEN streak instead of the usual white streak?? Can someone, ANYONE please explain this to me? A certain type of metallic material burning away? *confused*

Sounds like a meteor to me. (It is a meteor until it strikes the earth; then it is a meteorite.)

I have seen all sorts of colors associated with meteors. Watch the Leonids sometime and you will see many different colors. The coolest meteors are Fire Balls. I have seen two. Very memorable.

Yes sir, you have seen a meteor. The color of a meteor streak in the sky is dependent on two things: The composition of the meteor, and the composition of the air surrounding the meteor as it enters the atmosphere. The green color of the meteor you saw means it was composed of nickel.

That sounds about right to me! ;)
I saw the same thing awhile back but in purple.......... so what kind of metal do u think that is?????

It sounds like you saw what's know as an Iridium Flare. These are momentary reflections of the Sun
bouncing off of the panels of a satellite. These events can actually be predicted, and accurately too!

How to Find an Iridium Flare: 6 Steps (with Pictures) - wikiHow

Pretty cool to see, especially when you know when it's coming and where it will be.
