Welcome Greg, that's in great shape.

Congrats !

Welcome to Tnet Greg. One heck of a nice quarter you got yourself there! I don't keep a Red Book around here so can't help you with what its worth.

You're right, that is a real good first find, or hundredth find! In that condition, you might fetch $100 for it, maybe more. That is the prettiest dug coin I've seen in a long time. You better keep searching that area.

a definate keeper there,, finding a coin in this shape is a fluke from what i'm told.. i have a sweet barber quarter i got on the side of a hill,, (good drainage) i about wet myself on that find.... keep em comin..... ;D

Very nice coin, I would be interested on what else is found by the old homestead. Ravenguide and green1, what are you using for a detector?

That is a really nice looking coin. Congratulations on the find.

I grade it AU, going by the amount of detail. 1858 is a common date Seated quarter. The fair retail value on this one would probably range from $50 to $80 because it has the bright silver look of a cleaned coin. This is one heck of a nice coin for a metal detector find, though- one of the nicest dug Seated 25c I have seen.

What the heck? Did you find it in a slab?? HAHA looks like it has never touched dirt before...great dig!

That is a real nice quarter

I wish to thank all of you who have responded to my find, and the warm welcom I have recieved.
As you all know, it takes a tremendous amount of effrt to find this stuff, and positive feedback is greatly appreciated.
i use a white's XLT and just put it on coins,I have not used or know how to use the setting for relic? or jewlelry,as to much junk comes up.an interested footnote to the quater....This was found about one mile from there, it is the very same year, but in half dollar.

Great quarter...Congrats. Still looking for my first seated or SLQ by that matter.

Awesome seated Quarter! Looks like it still has some of the original luster. I also have an XLT and use the Relic mode only, I use the on board settings and up the preamp gain and AC sensitivity as far as the machine can stand without it getting unstable. The XLT is a great coin and jewelry hound, I have hunted areas with my Minelab XT70 that I went over with the XLT and have not found much silver left but did find several relics and other coins. I'm in Germany and the coins here have been made from just about every metal you can imagine. Nice find and welcome to the forum, HH, Mike
