Nice two cent piece. Congratulations!

Other than the rather rare 1872 & 1873 mintages, yours is the lowest year (721K) minted- Congrats! Typically most of us find 1864's. I personally have had success using the boiling peroxide method to clean 2 cent coins and Indians, but by all means, wait for others to chime in before proceeding. It looks like it's got quite a bit of detail left and should clean up well- GL!

Great Finds...! :icon_thumright:
As for the Chinese coin, use this great website for identity of Dynasty
that the coin was produced. Illustrations of the characters and descriptions
of the metal etc. There are photos of the coins, mostly, so, good luck...!

a 2-cent coin is on my Bucket List....!

Thank you for the information, I have found a few shield nickels, but they were incredibly worn with barely the shield to tell. If that cleaning method works, I'll probably use it. I've used it quite a bit with other items and like the results.

Nice 2 cent, hope it cleans up well.
I see you got a chain mail coin purse as well.
Were any of the coinage near it?
Thanks, pepperj. I'll post a picture later of the coin. Its possible, the coins were in a 12 foot radius, but it was a dumpy area.

Thanks EMDT, I have tried that site and have had luck with some others it seems pretty hard. I'll give it a go. Sometimes they are very old!!! I appreciate the link!!

Congratulations on some nice keepers. What does the back of your Eagle button look like? It appears to be of the 1851 to 1941 style. The backmark could tell us how old it is.

Atay safe and keep swingin.

I spent a little time trying to clean it up. I need to get some lemons. Maybe you can tell, or I can clean it more

You are welcome!
Start with general appearance of outer rim and center hole. Then, the hard part orienting the coin right side up, to top , but the reverse might be easier to key out.... And, yeah, they are usually real old, as the Chinese chap brought along a memory of home....!

I'll give it a go, I appreciate the help. I have a bunch of different ones that it would be nice to id. This one almost seems a different type of metal, but it could just be me.

I got a chance to clean it. It stil had was pretty dark patina so I used some fine steel wool to bring out a little shine. I like this style. Thanks for the help!!
