Left the house this morning and headed over to Saratoga Springs to an old wooded area over near the lake. After 30 minutes into it and already finding 5 beer can tabs, I got another solid 60 hit, and I was like its just going to be another beer can tab, and was pleasantly surprised to find this 3 inches down. This is my first gold coin, in my short 20 year life of metal detecting!

So nice to see some buried gold coins being found. A bit envious but happy for you, Any gold coin let alone one that nice is the holy grail for many of us. I too thnks it needs to be a banner find for sure.
I think any gold coin should be an automatic banner find. The true definition of treasure. Aren’t those gold coins the reason we’re all here? It is for me!

kmk... Thanks for sharing that story. You'll be smiling for a long time on that one. Great photos too!
Using the PCGS Coinfacts App (formerly Photograde) the details appear to me to be in at least in one of the AU (Almost Uncirculated) grades, and it's nice that gold coins don't suffer so much from "Environmental Damage" like silver and bronze coins (in the grading process).
Here's a link for current prices at the Coinworld U.S. Coin and Paper Money site: https://www.coinworld.com/coinvalues/250-dollar/1926-indian-head-250-quarter-eagle.html
CONGRATS on a dream find !
