I had some free time this afternoon so I headed out to one of my favorite sites to hunt for a few hours. First I found a few keys and a pocket knife . Then a knapsack hook with the disc missing. I got another signal next to the hole and there was the disc. I meandered around a bit digging some miscellaneous junk. Then I got a large mixed signal on the old Nautilus and after a foot of digging, I was saying to myself ..."please be another Hotchkiss shell"... 4 or 5 inches deeper and I scraped iron at the bottom of the hole. I could see a rounded edge and then after a little hand digging , i rubbed the item and saw the white lead. I knew then what I had ....Another Hotchkiss shell !! I carefully dug around it and got it loose and pulled it out of the hole. I was exstatic. I had found one here about 3 weeks ago. This is my third Hotchkiss Bolt and fourth intact CW shell this yr. I carried the shell back to the car and continued to hunt (hoping for another shell) I found the nose of a parrot shell and a small cannonball frag , a large piece of lead shell sabot, a round piece of sheet brass with nails all around it...more junk so i called it a day. The sponge rust popped off the shell very easily revealing a nice shell.
