Relic Hunting
I had an amazing week in Gettysburg PA. Hanging out with the locals and the two local Policeman that took me around to different historic sites around the area. Relics were really, really difficult to be found around there. I do not recommend attempting detecting in this town. There are some very good relics hunters who have POUNDED these sites for years. While detecting one morning I had mentioned to Larry Runk (Sargent of Gettysburg police) whom I was detecting with that morning. I said, "you detectorists have it rough around here" He agreed and put it into perspective like this, " you have a 3 day battle, with 140 years worth of relic hunters" Think about it. We detected for two days coming up with some decent lead and a bunch of trash. On the third day I met up with Joe (Civilman) treasurenet.com. Joe is a fine detectorist and knows his history very well, showing me the exact routes troops made standing in the very same lanes. Now that was a treat in itself! Joe and I started detecting a new field in PA where we located some dropped bullets and Joe's first PA campaign Gardner. He has many great relics from the Civil War he has found in the past and was very pleasant to detect with. On my way home I couldn't resist the Colonial era looking home I saw from the expressway in VA. After locating the farmer he agreed to let me detect. After thanking him and leaving him with some 4-h memorabilia, I located the old trash pit in the back of the house digging some cool items that satisfied my detecting craving to complete my week long journey through the Eastern United States. The American Picker fellas ended up digging some decent lead and other CW relics. It was a great experience I plan on doing again real soon. You can see some of the adventures on the History Channel "American Pickers" airing sometime between Jan- March.

Thanks for looking!
