U talk about teed off.. my homework, time, fuel ( 60 mile round trip ) and cash. all wasted in ten min, at a old mid 1800s park due to other hunters bad digs. :angry5: . the chief of police was very nice and we talked for a bit. but to no avail can i get a hunt in with out lots of hassle trying to sway the city committee :-[ but i am thinking about emailing them a letter.. but i managed a short hunt at my old honey hole.. not a whole lot to right home about there.. part of a Dick Tracy cap gun, a key and a few regular Wheat's... ( nothing like the killer historic find in my last post. was found today ) till the next hunt and best of digs to all.. MR TUFF

Man Mr.Tuff sorry to hear about you bad day but at leat you got in a small hunt and found a few things to make the day and it does suck to drive all that way and then be told you cant hunt the area and with gas prices that is a way to go just to be turned away. I tryed to get out but it was rain off and on all day and i dont have a waterproff case for my ace 150 yet or i would of bin out today.

Well, hope you have a good outcome swaying the committee. Maybe you can get special permitting and then you can bag the dopes who spoiled it for the honest people. Good luck and good hunting.

Bummer! If you email the city committee, include some pictures of your best historical finds! One pic really has the impact of 1,000 words! Seeing is believing. Offer to share with them 50-50 whatever historical objects you find, but not the coins. They may be intrigued with having some artifacts from the old park to show off and display at city hall or a local museum! Good luck! Andi

Most times that this happens is because of new treasure hunters who don't have a clue. In a town near me some fool was using a shovel in the park. It's nice that silver and gold go up but it always brings newbies who are lost in space with Will and the rest of the Robinsons. We could do without all of those 'Whites' tv ads also. New people please learn how to pinpoint and dig before you destroy it for the rest of us ! Kane 23

yeah that does suck....I'm traveling about 3 hours this weekend to the beaches of NJ -and I'd be bent if told me to pack up and move on (but good news is there are a lot of places in NJ to hunt- even if I have to drive another 20-30 mins south east of where I plan on staying this weekend.) it might be best to start a face book page, start a club and show new people how to dig right - I'm still new, I have made some messes myself (and cleaned them up for the most part, but knowing that my park has some areas where sand has been backfilled with dirt and sod doesn't grow all that good reminds me not everything you dig is going to look pretty after your done.) that being said I want to look like I was never there, and I try really hard not to leave a mess. someone new to metal detecting is going to ask or search out info on finding good things, and when they do everyone should be ready to remind them, if they don't do the right thing filling their holes - no one is going to be able to keep searching for hidden treasure. seriously. I think maybe soon I will start a facebook page for north eastern PA -because I think education on 'how too' is important. I have nothing to sell, and I'm still learning (one more reason I keep coming back reading all the stories here!) -but being new people are going to make messes- hopefully they won't ruin all the good places to hunt. Good luck all, and HH!

Before sending a letter try hunting it on the weekend. I say this because there is a very old park I had good luck at a few weekends so I decided to hit it after work during the week day and was very nicely run out. I think the only policeman in town that knows about the no hunting that park is the senior cop that does not have to work weekends. This park is across the street from the police station and I wave to them and they drive by a couple time per hunt. Sending a letter might alert all of the police of the rule.

There is another town I made the mistake of asking if it was OK to hunt, I was told yes and the next time I went there I was told no because one of the police decided to research all the local laws and found one on the books.

Was it proven bad digs or 'critters' (as you say) pulling up the loose tuff for bugs? I have seen this many times on here.

Was going to mention this. metal detectorists usually make perfect scapegoats for any kind of public landscaping flaws.
Its only ok to dig in the ground if your a cute puppy as far as i've seen anyway. Has anyone ever trained a dog to dig for them while metal detecting? ;D

Sorry to read about your "park incident" Mr Tuff, some of us know how that feels! >:(

Great looking skeleton key though! :icon_thumright:

I don't blame you one bit for being >:( Mr.Tuff! Hopefully ALL your future hunts will be far more productive!
