Got out a little today....................

Gout is terrible... I crawled up and down and out of the canyon carrying my gear on my hands and knees, one trip at a time... before I knew what was going on one year... Crawling was easy, walking was impossible...

I think with rain gear, a warm jacket..... You could prospect no problem!:laughing7:

Absolutely! Gear up and it's go time!!
(Other than the gout of course)

Turned out to be a great day....
Wasn't as much water running as I would have liked so didn't get to move as much sand but we'll see what we got after cleanup.

anyway heres a little vid and a pic or two.

I could watch Docs videos all day and pickup a trick or two every time!
I agree. Doc has put a lot of good info out there for us......:icon_thumright:

More than I expected but not as much as I had hoped for.............. Due to the flow problems I think I only moved 2 buckets worth of sand.... If I could use power I could have moved 10 times that in the same amount of time.....

Hoping to get out a little Saturday morning....
Tides aren't perfect but maybe I can get motivated enough to get up a little earlier and move some sand.....

JD, Good luck, if you go don't forget your amphibian suit. I'm going to have to just take the time and head for the hills and see how much overburden I can move. ha ha!

Got out back to back days. I've taken to working seams in the bedrock. Used to process the gravel bars and shallow bedrock, I found fine gold. But my bigger stuff has come from cracks and seams.
I don't find eye popping amounts, but I think my pieces are respectable. Sluiced probably 13 gallons of 1/2 inch classified.
An observation, the bedrock here is brittle and jagged, breaks in straight sharp lines. Not much black sand. But lots of pyrite especially after breaking some bedrock. While across the creek, hard round granite and lots of black sand.
My weapon of choice is the Angus MacKirk Au trap "foreman".
The pictures are in order starting from the top.

Only in my dreams do I get coarse gold like that but I don't get to the streams ... all my work is done on the beach where we have nothing but fine gold.
..... Very nice.....:icon_thumleft:

This doesn't have anything to do with Beach mining, but you should post it in a new thread because it is a good shot of normal stream sluicing :) Beach Mining is an art in its own right, a totally different form of Mining and sluicing in a place where our Angus MacKirk sluices are totally useless.

Thank's Reed.
Yeah lets do try to keep this thread on beach gold....:icon_thumright:

No need to move the post but a gentle suggestion to start your own threads for future posts about creek placer mining or post them on similar threads. This thread started out/is about ocean beach mining. The conditions, methods and gold found are much different than your post. Pretty gold by the way.

It has been a winter..... and the last 10 days or so have been WET and WINDY with no breaks in sight.
We have had 40 inches of rain so far this year.... Yes from Jan. 1st. and it isn't just rain, it is stormy.. Small craft advisories and gale warnings... Warnings my ass.... it is a gale...lol

So I may or may not get out this weekend...

Next week we have company coming and they want to do a bit of beach mining, so I told them to be sure they brought GOOD rain gear cause they will need it if they want to do this.
So it looks like it will be to the beach wind, rain, and wave be damned......:dontknow:

If the sand is wet maybe you won't encounter the other scourge of beach mining....Sandblasting.:laughing7:

Have fun and get you some.

I want to hit my beach soooo.... bad right now! Lake effect snow, frozen ground, and unplowed seasonal road are keeping me home.

Spose I could bed and pan the tailings again and see if I missed anything.

Johndoe, you ever detect those Oregon beaches? Seems like with all the weather there would be good cuts to detect for some nice chunky beach gold jewelery ;)
