Got my Garrett GTI-1500 today. No Quarter at 10" or 6"

Got my gerrett off the ups truck about 1pm and loaded it with new duracells.went out in the back yard and found several coins, two wheat pennies even, and a quarter, spoon, big bullet, lead, pull tab,one big nasty piece of flat iron.Machine is very calm and quiet even with the sensitivity up high, ignores small iron very well aparently. However,I made my way to the edge of the flower garden where I have to quarters burried, one at 6" and one at 10".Burried a week ago in red clay, and packed very good. It's been raining here all week so its wet.One way signal on the 6" deep quarter, and nothing on the 10".Sensitivity all way up,or turned down to the middle no change.Am I asking to much to get a 6" deep quarter in red North Carolina clay?I air tested with a dime and got more than 6". What is the deal? Very nice GTI-1500 for sale Brian Deese (919)-563-3739.

Not getting a reading on those two quarters buried at 6 & 10 inches is really not a surprise at all. I have a test garden, about 7-8 years old, and my Garrett 1500 couldn't pick up the 10" silver quarter either, nor could my Minelab Musketeer, a Tesoro Silver Max, Whites Surfmaster II, Detector-Pro, ACE 250 and a few others. However, all these mentioned detectors could get the 6 inch silver quarter, 6 inch dime and 6 inch penny. Your 1500 maybe have some trouble with your coins because a halo hasn't formed around your coins, making them appear a larger target. I am not sure what red North Carolina means? Is it highly mineralized? If so, expect pretty well most single frequency machines to have some difficulty punching a lot of depth in that type of soil. The GTI 1500 is a coin & jewellery hunting machine, and once you get used to the imaging feature and it's limitations, you really excel at digging good targets. The GTI 1500 isn't a real deep relic machine, nor is it priced like the deep relic machines. And buying a deep seeking relic machine doesn't get you twice the depth at twice the price.

If you want more depth, a larger coil could help or if the soil is mineralized, a DD coil will also help to punch through that type of soil

Did you buy the machine new? Someone could have messed with the pots inside, putting the machine out of tune. Do you have the new chip installed?

I have no reason to believe it is not working as it should,it found several good targets. It was very well behaved, nice and quiet until it found a target,I dont know about the chip, how do you tell? I dont know how to tell if ground is mineralized,or how much it is mineralized. That is a topic I was going to post about soon because I dont know anything about that.I thought the coil was bigger for some reason but it is a 9.5 inch round.

How does the 10x14 coil work on the gti-1500? anybody using this setup?

Re: Got my Garrett GTI-1500 today. No Quarter at 10" or 6"

red clay --the red color is caused by iron !!! yep red clay is high in iron content --which will help block out the detectors electronic signal from reaching proper depth --highly minerailized grounds are a real bear for most detectors to work in -- in some places the minerals are just too strong to run too high of a sen level -- one often has to back off a bit so that the detector doesn't false or pick up on the "background" minerals in the soil -- odd as it sounds -- backing off the sen level can help you in some cases where the ground has too much minerals -- since it will no longer be messed with by the soil conditions and will thus read the "real" metal finds better .
