looks like a filled in "s" to me, sweet find

First I would clean it up a bit with water. I would forward these pics to a guy named Gerry Fortin in Maine. He has a web site. He is the FOREMOST expert on Seated Dime Varieties and has the best Seated dime collection in the PCGS set registry. Have consulted my Breens book and can't seem to find a 1876 "filled s" die variety. Nice Find. :headbang:

Ok, I washed the dime off with only water and I put it in a flip. here is the best pic I can get of the mintmark. I think you're right, looks like a filled in "S"

absolutely now you cleaned it, you can see the "s" clear as day

Hi, just out of curiosity, does that make this dime valuable? how rare is this type of error?

GREAT PIC, and great looking dime. The detail on the rest of it is close to EF so I don't think he would attribute the filling of the "s" to wear. I recently sent a 1877 CC dime to Gerry for attribution of a different die variety. He's a good guy. Send the pics to him via his website. AWESOME!

Ok, now I've got to post front and rear overall pics LOL!!! tell me what condition you think it's it? thank you in advance

There may be others, but I don't see any mention of it in Breens. Although Breens does make mention of small and large "s" varieties. :dontknow: There are also different postional varieties for the mint mark. Quite a few varieties for the 1876 s.

sweet!!!!!! MR TUFF
