Got any Cobbs

I’ve been lucky enough to find just 2 whole Cobbs. The tan one looks broken on the base but it must of been an error in the making cause it’s a flake removed. Both were found in creeks. Let’s see yours.

definitely a stanfield variety. which may be an unsharpened blade which morphs into the well known cobbs triangular during sharpening

made of Harrison County flint found in Delaware County Indiana.

Can someone please explain to the new guy (me) what a cobb is?

a cobbs blade is an un-notched archaic blade which over time, most exhibit a bevel on the blade edge from resharpening.

Beveling is an early archaic trait. All you have to do is skin one animal with a beveled knife and you’ll know exactly what the purpose of the bevel is. Experimental archaeology always gives you the right answer.

Not all Cobbs knifes will have bevel I don’t think? Only the resharpened ones correct?

This cobbs blade found in Ohio 2012 is made of Flintridge and has a nice bevel

This cobbs knife was found 10/19/2004 across from my house. Both edges are beveled, the base has a ding.

I found this cobbs 03/08/2020 that has been flaked in a way similar to a Decatur where two edges had been knapped off. so its possible, maybe, that the curved "ding" was a purposefully make "feature"

I found this cobbs September of 1988 close to my house, nicely beveled, a reworked tip. All there. Hafting area clear in basal area where bevel terminates.

This Coshocton Chert cobbs is from Adams County Ohio, good beveling on both blade edges.

This cobbs found 1-25-2019 close to my home has an wild bevel, one side left hand bevel, the other a right hand bevel. I have not seen any like this.

The shadowing on the image shows one side bevel well, the other not so well, but both can be seen in the profile 2nd image.
