Hello all, I haven't posted much in a week or so because it has been cold and snowy here in WV for the past two weekends and, unfortunately I have to work during the warm weekdays. However, for Valentines Day, my wife bought me a new Garmin ETrex Legend GPS receiver, and I now have two MapSource CD sets....the US topo, and the US Metro. I have been spending a lot of time in the evenings programming in waypoint coordinates for old homesites. I got a lot of the coordinates from the online map server at maptech.com, and I have been comparing the old 1900 maps that I have of my area to the newer maps and estimating waypoints for the old homesites that date to 1901 (when my old maps were surveyed) by comparing the two maps. It is snowing here right now and about 25 degrees and it sucks, but I may try and venture out later anyways as the ground isn't frozen cuz the weather hasn't been cold enough for long enough to do so. Tomorrow it is supposed to be sunny and 35 so I'll definitely be going then....can't wait to try out my new toy and....wish me luck!!

It sounds like a great idea...but unfortunately it didn't work for me. :( I was off course on one site by at least 1/2 a mile.

Maybe, you have better maps than I do. Good luck! :)

yeah, hopefully the coordinates on maptech.com are correct.....they do match up well with my Garmin maps though as far as land features and roads, etc, because the Garmin maps don't show houses

when i place a waypoint from the maptech site, the point shows up where it should on my GPS so hopefully I'll have better luck......the map that came with my Etrex Legend was pretty crappy and didn't have any detail except for interstates and major highways, no land topography at all, but the maps that I downloaded have the topography and are highly detailed, except for the absence of actual houses
