What an excellent trip I had! My buddy, and Tnet member Ahab8, was kind enough to invite OutdoorAdv and myself to his area for a weekend of nonstop colonial digs.

The hunt included some Camping and lobster, boat rides, and of course some goodies.

We started with an 1812 site where I dug a lot of musketballs and a beautiful pewter infantry button.

I spent a large part of my time there at a nearby colonial foundation. Arguably my best find was a pewter plate, complete with knife scores left by some colonist chopping up his vittles.

I did some test holes sifting, and found a few old things.

Later we were hiking around looking for a fort used to ward off the Indians. I don't know if what I found was related, but I found a phenomenal roundball and gun flint spill. Brad helped me dig them all out. Wow!

(After this pic was taken we continued to find more)

Also dug was a shoe buckle and a KG2 young head.

Our final stop produced a big shocker - although pounded, I was able to unearth the nicest condition copper I've ever dug - a 1749 KG II Farthing!

Here is the War of 1812/colonial sifting finds. Note the cartridge box finial;)

And the colonial pewter plate. These are rarely dug.

A highly regarded expert said, " Very cool and unusual find! Those were so hard to damage or destroy that they were almost never discarded"....

A big thanks to Abe (AHAB8) for being about as good of a host and friend a person could ask for. He's a top notch hunter and a great fella. He put us on some great sites and we all had some crazy good finds. We all had a blast and I will venture to say Brad (OutdoorAdv) is one of the nicest people one could know. Thanks, and I hope you enjoy!

Another awesome trip with two great friends :occasion14: My jaw dropped when you walked over with that damn pewter plate :laughing7: I had a great time pulling those musket balls and flints out with you and I'm really glad you called me over. A hunter or soldier sat in that very spot 200+ years ago and when he stood up, he left his leather cartridge pouch behind. What an awesome site to see all those musket balls, buck and ball and flint come out of the dirt. And the farthing had me sprinting back to the truck to fetch my GPX drooling the whole way there. :laughing7: You killed it my friend. What a great time with lots of laughs and killer relics all around. I took my pictures today and at some point I'll get my post together.

Thanks Brad. It was a real blast getting to share this hunt with two good friends. And pulling finds like those musket balls together was awesome. What amazes me with most of Abe's spots is how they're all in deep woods and there's no trace of anything having been there. That mill/cabin site was a perfect example. Anyway, can't wait to see your post.

Looks like the Great White North Part II was another great success. A big  to Abe. Love that War of 1812 Infantry button and the farthing is spectacular. The musketball and gunflint spill had to be a thrill to dig. Did you sift the spot to make sure you got all the gunflints? Not sure if you have ID the heart shaped piece, but it is an 1850s suspender buckle. Some were stamped with patriotic designs.

You're absolutely right Steve. That heart buckle was a surface find and I highly doubt it was part of the site. From the finds and research, the site was not there past the 1820's. I'm glad you liked the digs - and unfortunately I didn't sift the flint spot. The was actually atop a rock outcrop with minimal soil. I did methodically sort through the surrounding soil. Thanks for looking!

Glad to see you get away on another great detecting vacation Steve. Good friends, good food, great times, and finds. That farthing is in great shape. Those flints are a rare find. Did you hunt the same area as last year?

Great post great finds, Abe doesn't even answer my text anymore, if you see or hear from him tell him I said hi.

Excellent post Scrappy.

The pewter button and flint/ball spill are really sweet finds.

So that's what a KG is supposed to look like...

Looks like digger heaven to me...with lobster dinner to boot. You guys know how to do it up right!

Great finds! I just heard Tom's truck door slam shut!

Doesn't get much better than that in this hobby. Great stuff!

Wow, wow and wow! That's what happens when two relic hunting aces team up. Thanks for sharing folks.

Great post!!! Fabulous finds! I really like the Farthing, it has great detail for a dug copper!
Musket ball spill with flint is just incredible! Congrats and HH

Thanks for looking DD. That farthing was dug about 20' from another spot where Abe dug a farthing in equal (if not better) condition. That soil was beautiful - soft and fluffy!

Super finds... good times... what more could you ask for.

Well done guys.

That's pretty much as good as it gets for me. Brad, Abe, and I always have good times. The finds just enhance an already good time.

Thanks for looking

Same area yes, and some new ground. We try and mix recon and known sites.

Sounds like & looks like a great time! Congrats

Great post great finds, Abe doesn't even answer my text anymore, if you see or hear from him tell him I said hi.

I'm sure it was unintentional, unlike friends who don't post on threads intentionally. In my case I just cut that bull**** out of my life.

Thanks buddy. I'm happy to hear you like the finds. Funny enough I pulled apiece of flint out and it didn't register for a minute what it was. Afterward I was over the moon - I've always wanted to find one.

Cheers

Another solid haul in Abe's backyard Steve- love digging early colonial...especially when there's an opportunity to pull a new pewter button, or an entire frickin plate. Glad to see you guys crushed it again
It was a real nice time Jon. We all had a blast and came away with some keepers. And yep, Abe was very generous to invite us up (again). Lol

There was three of us: Abab8, OutdoorAdv, and myself. But thanks!
