I got out to hunt a couple sites this morning but only had a few hours. First site I hunted was where I found the barshot this past weekend and my hunting partner found the 4 pounder cannonball.I was hoping to find more of the barshot but still looking for that. First target of the day was a surprise...a Canadian Guards cap badge! I love finding anything military but this was a tiny bit disappointing as this field has only produced old relics...but I'm not complaining! Found a few musketballs and the worn copper and decided to hit another field.

The second field is another field I've been hunting this year as it's been recently mowed and is easy swinging. I've hunted this site "to death" but always seem to come out with a keeper or two. There are still deep and small targets left so this site needs to be hunted real slow.

First target was a bronze ring but the keeper was a nicely engraved colonial era silver cufflink...a first for me! Just goes to show that no site is really hunted out...conditions are constantly changing!

Maybe the cap badge is not as old as you'd like, but ANY hat badge is a good find in my book. I've only got one so far, and is one of my favs.

Might get out for a quickie this evening.

Nice cufflink!! I found a similar one (size, shape) with a slightly different hand done floral design.

Nice hunt Romeo-1. That is a sweet cuff link :icon_thumleft:

Beautiful cuff link! :icon_thumright:

Sensational Silver, romeo!

Are you soon returning to find the still missing three quarters of the set?

Here's to ya...

You are smelling so sweet this year!

The scent of skunk doesn't seem to waft towards you at all

Nice silver!

I don't want to jinx it (knock on wood) but I think I'm having my best year yet!

I was recently advised that this has been previously identified as being related to the British navy. I did find a British navy officer's button on this same site dating to the late 1700s. Input? Iron Patch?

It does look like / have a tudor rose on it ?
The same as on the earliest of Navy buttons.

Here's the Navy button I found on the same site a couple years ago...
