Gold Well Vortex Sluice

There is always one in the bunch. I made a second screen bucket for my pump. Bucket tops are above the water line. No more grass in the pump. Used pcv pipe and 2 elbows and pump hose attaches at the top so the hose does not kink.

Drove up to Dewey today to help Woody get his Gold Well set up and give him some tips. A neighbor of Woody's has been working Lynx creek and gave him 5 five gal buckets of solid black sand. This was tailings from his sluice, la trap and panning. The black sand was beat to death. Got the unit set up and told Woody lets dump that beat black sand into the Gold Well. Ran 2 gal and panned the results. A ton of fine flour gold was recovered. Pieces so small I could not believe it. Woody has been doing this since 69. Said he never used a unit that could catch gold that fine. The attached photos are from my I Phone. Even my phone could catch all that gold in a photo. Woody is a very happy man! I'm so happy for him. Thanks again Bernie!

GPAP had a small outing in Dewey Az Sat. A bit of a chill with wind had the valley folks putting a extra coat on. Including me! We all traveled down to Lynx Ck to fill our buckets with gold dirt. Woody and I had our Gold Wells set up for the members to try out. Due to rain the night before the Lynx dirt was wet. So everyone was running 1/2" screened dirt. The wet sand sticks to the small rocks so If you run a big bigger stuff you get more gold. All had the same results. A large amount of very fine gold along with the normal size flakes. We work the spot often. Our previous machines did not catch gold that fine in that spot. One older member, Jack heard about our black sand test. He prospects for a living. Jack brought a bucket of black sand he was saving to process in his Gold Magic. He said it would take 2 days. We ran the bucket of black sand in 15 min. Just dumping scoop after scoop into the Gold Well. The rest of the day Jack was walking around showing off the gold in the pan from that run. Jacks selling other equipment and buying a Gold Well. Jack does very well prospecting. In years past Company's would send him equipment for testing. Knows his stuff. He said he never seen anything like it.
I brought some concentrates back loaded with fine gold to practice my flour gold panning. My wife grabbed it. Is this for me! Good thing I have 3 more buckets in the trunk of dirt to play with.

Clay all I had to do was follow your map program Footprints to the gold. x marks the spot. A very handy tool indeed. Best I've seen.

Thanks Sarge. :happysmiley:

We considered including nuggets with the DVD but that would just take all the fun out of it. :laughing7:

Keep on diggin, love that color you're getting. :icon_thumright:

I have a question I've been curious about since I have seen this sluice.
Why are all the wells in a line like that?
O.O.O
O.O.O

Why would it not be more effective to have them offset?

Thanks, I just wanted to understand how the mechanics work.
:)

the wells overlap each other, there is no empty space in between them. there's nowhere for the gold to escape, it has to fall into the wells.

Trick is to adjust your water flow until the material starts churning in the holes. No more. Look close at the first photo. Everything from nuggets to fairy dust. This batch was not screened. Had rocks up to 3" but most material was quartz gravel 1/2" size and down. It depends on material. I like 1/4" screen but it depends on where it comes from. Dry washer stuff cleans up fast.

Hey Sgtda,

How far down does the gold get on that sluice. I contacted GW and inquired about buying a plate to add to my current setup. Just was wondering if most is caught in the upper part for a days digging. I guess I should ask how many wells down the sluice.

Gold goes to the very bottom. It is normal for the holes to run almost full. The material churns and gold goes to the bottom. If the holes fill to the top with gold time for a clean out. A big clean out!

How does it compare with the goldhog matting, or have you ever used it? I like the razorback mat but I am always looking for a better system.
