He actually WAS mining in an area that had been rezoned previously from Mining to Residential. This isn’t manufactured drama. Happily the county rezoned it back to Mining fairly quickly.

also it isn't too big of a lot. Weren't several lots in the area rezoned and multi use?

I just don't see finding an old dredged area where your permit only allows the running of previously disturbed material as actually 'mining"

Freddy says the dirt is about twelve bucks a yard....it was fifteen when it was virgin....

So, the old dredge had 80% loss or so.....GIVE ME A BREAK.

Much details about the zoning changes back and forth coming out on the show?

Very likely true. Colorado was where the (New Zealand invented) commercial dredges were tested and refined. Several of the early dredges in CO lost almost all the gold and led to bankruptcy for their owners. Innovation is hard!

Dunno as I haven’t watched the show BUT there was plenty of press about it here locally. (I live 1 county away from there).

Meh, a couple of them... .But, the dredges in fair play weren't "early dredges"

It's a TV show. It's not about mining and it's not about making a profit mining.

$15 a yard in 1910 was about 3/4 ounce of gold. (gold price $20.67 an ounce) Today's value $960 a yard.

$14 a yard in 2017 is about 1/3 gram of gold. (gold price $1,280 an ounce) Today's value $14 a yard.

$14 a yard these days is not a mine - at best it's a sand and gravel operation. Just like the property was set up for before they arrived. Pretending to mine gold while sifting tailings sand is strictly a TV thing - nothing to do with mining. :laughing7:

Heavy Pans

I think Freddy was referring to todays prices even.

Like they were gonna make up for it by running volume.

They should mine the tailings pile I am currently drywashing. I am averaging about 0.25 grams per guesstimated 20 to 30 gallons or so of feed or just over 1 1/2 grams per yard. Gotta go....I am off to borrow an excavator from Todd and hire a well driller so I can sluice it.:laughing7:

Anyone still watch this? It's on against Znation which is more believable. Discovery was on when I got home and flipped the tele on and Todd just found out he was mining in a residential zone.

Really?! Minning is so boring you have to fabricate drama?

I can watch hours of this s*t

I feel bad for Freddy, that's messed up. The guy at county was a complete *******... that wasn't scripted drama. That's real world BS.

Mining may have halted for the season at the Hoffman claim in Fairplay, Colorado, but the Gold Rush stars are still on the mind of the local residents. On the eve of Friday’s episode, “Blizzards and Bullets,” a nearby residential group, calling themselves Save South Park, have filed a lawsuit to prevent the Todd Hoffman crew, that are featured on the Discovery Channel gold reality show, from returning to mine for gold in their Colorado town in 2018. They believe that the disruption is because Discovery is “mining for ratings.”

Meanwhile the mayor of FairPlay is a big supporter of the show being there. The county commissioners too. The SSP suit will die.

Thanks for the update. KevininColorado.

Mayors and county commissioners tend to be very selfish and short sighted in small bedroom communities. They also tend to believe they know more than the community members.

from what I've gleaned the majority of the population are against gold rush. I've seen many posts on social media from locals who want them gone. They even have bumper stickers.
I don't blame them really.

As a prospector the things that 316 and High Speed Mining have done that shows they would rather ask for forgiveness vs. secure proper permission and follow their existing permit is just wrong.

Add on the fact that what they say they are doing on the show vs. the "reality" on the ground is just shameful. It goes well beyond scripted drama to keep a boring mine site interesting. They've gone to full blown produced tv. They are flat out making things up. they aren't really mining gold at either of their "mines"

Their willingness to lie, cheat and just plain be full of $#!* makes it impossible for me to stand up for the show in any way anymore.
Screw the suits at the city and county I'm with the locals #nogoldrush

I'm sure the real miners just to the west where they are actually mining feel the same.

Also they aren't even on a claim...neither work site is more than five miles from town. When they leave, the town won't have the little cash boon that the suits are all ga ga over...there is no way they rezoned with out receiving some sort of benefit. When a local entity tries to go for rezoning the process takes forever.

Make no mistake Todd and Discovery could care less about Fairplay. or actual gold mining.

Like pointed out in the article about the lawsuit. If Todd wasn't subsidized he wouldn't even be "mining"

Henceforth know as "playing with Tonkas in big sand box"

After all the other things they didn't secure the right water permits either. or rather didn't bother trying.

Since the beginning, Loser Todd make his money from the show and not from mining. Where is the Loser going to move to?

They are back on both film production sets.

They wish they actually had a claim

There is a lot of manufactured drama and such, but I do like watching the show. Gold is being found.

Watching last night, I really couldn't believe how steep of an angle the grizzly was set on one of the Hoffman wash-plants. It was approaching vertical with rocks and pay dirt sliding right off it. I know from experience there can be a lot of gold attached to "dirty rocks".

I think it would be fun and an interesting angle for the show to sample/process the tailings of these operations from various spots (sluice, grizzly etc.).
