Took a trip to an old favorite site, a large old park near a beach that I have hunted dozens of times. This place has yielded hundreds of old coins including an 1836 Capped Dime and several large cents, but NEVER did I find gold there.....until today! Finds were few, so I was digging essentially anything that I knew wouldn't be iron. Probably my fifth signal of the day, pulled some dirt out of the hole and saw what looked like a gold edge. How many times has that gold edge been the edge of a pulltab, so I figured just another one, but this one seemed thicker. Tossed the dirt on the ground and this baby fell out!

I couldn't wait to get it home and rinse it off- so sweet to see 14K stamped inside! Weighs in at just under .25 oz. First gold ring since 2007, so I'm stoked about this one!

Also added an 1864 Indian and worn slick King George Copper.

Enjoy the pics and HH all!

Hi Jeff! Please don't melt it!!! Just the fact that it is an initial ring gives it more value that the bullion itself and it is aesthetically a very beautiful ring. If in fact it was affiliated with a school or organization it will in all likelihood make it even more valuable. Looking forward to more research on it. Best, Erik

BTW I'm guessing the initials are H.A.D.

Thanks Erik!

I'm inclined to hang onto it, but was also thinking it would pay for a day of free gambling at a casino!!

Google search the initials FCAD- under my loupe I'm pretty certain I see 4 distinct letters, and there is a group of schools that go by that designation here in western Mass. That was my first reaction, but I'm very open to other opinions. Please let me know your thoughts.

I agree with ArmyJoe, the bling looks old... but gold is gold! Congrats!

That's a great find!

It could be FCAD, but if the first letter was an F I would have expected a small hook downward on the part that crosses the F. I'd be more inclined to go with the HAD. I think the grapes and leaves insignia on the sides may provide a clue as to what it represents.

Beautiful old gold. Congrats on a great find. I have a few sites that I've pounded that I wonder what I've missed over time. Your post gives me hope that I might bring some of these sites back to life someday. Again, congrats!

Beautiful ring Jeff.
That has some really nice color..
George

I like that old ring, very nice!, nice to have a spot to go to dozens of times!!

From what I understand, the last name's initial goes in the middle, so if is a 3-letter ring, the A would be the last letter.

That is a beautiful ring!!! Nice find!!!

WOW! Great looking ring and a super find! Congratulations!!! :notworthy:

That's a really nice lookin' ring. How old do you think it is??

Congrats on the rings as well as your other treasure finds.

Jeff,

Maybe the owner of that ring was a winemaker back in the day? The grape leaves are kind of odd, but it does ad to the coolness of finding old gold. Congrats and thanks for adding side pics

Joe

Fantastic gold ring Jeff! Nice ! Congrats!

I'm guessing the owner had money that's a chunky ring and well crafted.

Thats an amazing treasure and one to be proud off and enjoy for many years to come ! :occasion14: on :metaldetector: :treasurechest: :goldtrophy:
