Hi everyone. I continued to hunt that historic house near me yesterday (the infested iron site where I made the video), and tried a new area of the backyard this time.
Before digging I talked to the elderly owner and gave her a write up on the Lesney toy car I had found. Apparently it was her son’s from the 60’s, and she appreciates these wrtite-ups I do (I had also given her one on the Flying Eagle Cent I found, and she took that one to her “game day with the girls” where she told them all about the coin I’d found).
As I turned to go detect she said “how about you skip the copper and find some silver today?” I like that lady.
So I headed to the back yard and dug a penny pretty quickly. The next signal was a 16-17 on the Nox and not very deep, but I thought I heard a higher signal under it so I said to myself, let’s get the junk out of the way.
I pulled the ring from about 3” and at first thought it was fake because frankly it’s not that heavy (4.1grams). But then I saw the “14k” on the inside of the band and knew it was real.
I immediately walked back to the house, knocked on the door, dropped the ring in her hand and said “I skipped silver and went right to gold, I hope you don’t mind.” She loved it, and after looking at it for a while she said that it was not something from her family and that she had “no use” for it, so I could keep it.
I pushed back and said, No - it’s yours for one of your kids. But she explained that she’s already given her jewelry to the kids and wouldn’t know which one to give it to (for fairness) so she said it was best if I just kept it. (I think she also did the math and knew it wasn’t worth all that much - she’s sharp).
So now I finally have a ring for my collection! (The first one I found last year I did give to the property owner).
Oh, and I did the Gold Dance for her right in her kitchen (looked like that GrubHub dance).
