I just dug my first early gold ring and am one happy relic hunter! My buddy and I just went to a couple of different sites where we detected and sifted. I scored the gold ring early on at a shallow depth of maybe 4 inches. I am trying to use the makers mark to figure out when it was made. I really hope it is from the 1700s :icon_thumleft:. Any help on the maker would be appreciated! The inscription reads : "Remember the giver".

Keith,

Beauty of a ring and appears to have some serious age....as to the makers mark unless it was a well known goldsmith probably quite difficult tracking it down.

My memory is not as sharp as it used to be but I seem to recall someone or other digging up a silver thimble and it it the same stamp, ie; remember the giver so it might have been a popular gift stamp back in the day.

Regards + HH

You SOB! That's AWESOME!! Killer find man. I'm still waiting for my coil to pass over one, but they're rarely found. Congrats!

Wow! That's a great find Keith. Keep us posted if any info on the maker and age turns up.

WOW. That is a really sweet find. Congrats. It sure does look old to me.

Best of luck in tracking the maker down.

Awesome. Looks high K! Unmarked? Probably as old as you hope.

I'll see if I can get an ID on the mark.

That's awesome! Did it ring up in the foil range? Or was this sifted?

Banner find in my book.

Well done.

Yes it only has a makers mark. Thanks

I had my Deus remote in my pocket as I usually dig low trash sites by tone only. Every non- ferrous sound was dug and this ring was a good strong medium pitch.

Ok. Kind of flying blind but I've narrowed it down to 4 possible makers with one being less likely.

JW-JohnWilliams-2.jpg John Williams
JW-JohnWest-3.jpg John West
JW-JamesWintle.jpg James Wintle
JW-JacobWintle.jpg Jacob Wintle

John West is my leaning. All these guys were registered in London early to mid 19th century. Depending on the maker, and assuming it's one of these guys, my guess is the ring dates as early as 1810 to 1850.
