Gold-filled watch cases still have a good amount of gold, check ebay for batches that DIY gold refiners fight for, the prices are rather impressive.

Once while exploring a riverbank for bottle dumps I stumbled upon a gold pocketwatch completely exposed and gleaming in golden glory. I about had a heart attack, and after composure was regained I quickly made my way back to the car to scrutinize my booty.

Sadly it was just a 20 year gold-filled piece (Waltham movement I believe), but man the thrill of walking right up on that was extraordinary.

STILL A GREAT SAVE--- :notworthy::icon_thumleft::icon_thumright:

give the ATPro an extra pulltab as a treat :laughing7:

Those Cooksey Shugart watch guide books have a chart in them that estimates how much gold is on a GF pocket watch based on the size and years of guaranteed thickness ie.10, 20 & 30 year. There's more gold on that case then what most people expect. I'd look up "16 size 20 year scrap gold filled pocket watch case" on eBay and see if you can find another single case sold to get a value of it. I do however believe you'd do better selling it as a good case for someone looking for a better one on a Hampden they already have.

I read somewhere on a post from 2011, on a different forum, that 20 year watches have $50 per ounce of gold. They said that for every ounce, is around a gram of gold. I wouldn't scrap it though, it is great as it is.

I've been away from all of this for a while....But the easiest way to figure(roughly, because gold and wear are different) is about $1 a gram on an empty case. For the GF scrap. Give or take. There are formulas to get it real close, but I've forgotten all the ins and outs. :laughing7: There is more of course, but the guys buying have to make something in the end. How much? I don't remember...and depends on wear....
