A rare one off the bucket list.
I will have to take it to the jeweler tomorrow and have it tested and opened but it is gold of some kind and very heavy.
I am hoping it is solid gold but we will see.
No matter what, I am thrilled.

I will update this after I find out what this thing is really made out of.

Nice find. That sure gets your heart rate up when you find something like that. Congratulations.

set the watch on the stove top when baking....let sit...
it is a screw back...the heat will loosen the back off the watch...set it back down..so the back of the watch gets the heat...

not plated...Rolled Gold is the correct process for an old watch like this.

nice find...I bet it is a A.W.W.
double sunk dial might indicate a 21 jewel movement...

Be sure to check out any tiny tiny engraved dates on the inside of the back when it's removed. Repair guys would make their mark and dates often.

Did he say if its a screw off or pop off back? Cant see any name on the face from the pictures, otherwise I could look it up in my watch book. Once you get the back off, if you have a good magnifying glass, you can see if there are any repair dates to give you an indication of its age.
The case will either be gold filled, rolled gold or gold gilding. Once the back is off you will know for sure.

Screw on back...and front.
Still trying to get it off but it is stuck on there pretty good.

Some have suggested heat, one said a mineral oil bath for a few days could loosen it up.
Any and all suggestions are welcome because I can't wait to get it open and track down the numbers I am likely to find.

That's a pretty cool pocket watch.

Even though not solid gold as hoped, some gold, almost complete and still a rare find.
I am thrilled and this will be displayed next to the other piece of a pocket watch I found a few years ago that has a silver rim.
This is 2 more antique pocket watches than many have found so I am very lucky as far as I am concerned.
Love this hobby!
