✅ SOLVED gold plated button-type of thing

Kind of an odd piece found in a trashy 1900's site (or earlier). Came out of the ground shiny almost like the plating is gold. Seems to be a copper type of mass to it. Has two pieces (one broke) on the back that were clamped to a piece of broken glass, of all things.

No actually I think you're right - it does appear to be broken. I'll have to reexamine my own and post a better pic of the back.
It seems as if they both broke the same way, which would make sense because the design on the front is exactly the same (how cool is that).
No I never heard of a "bent-on" version before either but then again I never heard of a shoe button cover until this week. Pretty cool.

I think if it was a bendable tab it would have broken at the bend. I was mainly directing my question at trdking because he stated "It's not a shoe button cover..."

Well I put my broken one back together for a picture and it looks just like it - the little cut out and everything.
