This is what I consider to be my best find to date, it is a short sword 18" blade and has a four inch gold inlay on both sides in which are stamped markings of identification.
From the research I have made so far it would be a french sword dating late 1600'S early 1700's and would have been commended to a high rank officer, it has an iron crest outlay below the gold inlay (sword standing up) that indicates it being commended, I did not find all the info on the markings but it could also identifie the officer in question (would be very cool).
As you can notice on the picture the gold is of a very deep yellow which indicates it's closeness to purity.
It was found on a sandy beach on the shores of St.Lawrence River approx. 25 years ago.
Not being very well equipped for this type of photography the details are not very visible but the markings on the gold inlays reads as such, "XX IANXMOVM XX , nice piece of history.
