Heya everyone;

I had asked this question before in the Hard Rock Mining section but have not had many replies yet so I figured I would ask here.

We were back in our spot today doing some more underwater sniping when I found a large quartz vein that had been broken up a bit.
It looks like it is Ribbon Quartz because of all the pockets and being able to be broken easily.

I can see the gold but I think there might be silver too and a very light and bright silver patch that is almost powder like.

So I wanted to ask you guys, aside from the gold, what other minerals are in this specimen?

Also, should I treat this (and any other finds) with acid to get that neat gold webbing and how much is this specimen worth, is it worth less after being treated with acid?

Thanks guys, your helping my n00b brain to become less n00b. :D

If you scrape the gold on a testing stone and put the acid on the stone it will not damage the rock. I am no expert, but I acid test jewelry. I hope others can answer your questions better!

It's difficult to really see in the video. But it appears that the quartz has a mixture of Galena (can be lead/silver mix). As for the silvery looking parts, possibly schist or mica(?) Still pictures with good lighting would be a big help in identification.

But what the heck, you got gold and that in itself would get me fired up!! I'd get back there and retrieve all of the quartz I could before fall rains set in.

Congratulations on what could be the find of a lifetime!!
