Gold Hog Mat in a Calsluice

I thought about something similar. It would be cool to add a header or slick plate extension on the front and put the Gold Hog Scrubber mat right up there. I figure the scrubber would help break things up and stratify the material a bit before the casluice begins to work. I just ordered a CAsluice yesterday for how easy they look.

I definitely agree on the UR mats ...............I do like the idea.....hadn't thought of that....experimenting and trial and error

I run a proline 36" with deep v mat the whole way. I hand classify and shovel right into her. Your biggest problem is getting the gold out of the deep v mat. It doesnt like to come out at all.
I have to take my sluice and a 5 gal in the shower to get everything out.
I even run my dredge cons through it at the end of the day to give me super cons and just a cup to pan out.

I am going to redo both my calsluice and the Rdh power sluice. It was suggested to me to run Razorback and downdraft. Going to start messing with configurations tonight It was also suggested to me on the gold hog site to add a 1200 gph pump to the 800 that came with the sluice since the new mats can handle faster water and more flow. I have a 2980 gph sump pump I am running my stuff on in the back yard so I think I have enough flow.

A slick plate before any matting is always helpful.... I starts the classification process and helps the mats work more efficiently.....

I went ahead and added 2 sections of down draft and razor back to my RDH. I plan on building a hopper to feed it better. I increased the angle and the water flow and I get excellent exchange now and all the gold is caught in the front section. I reran all my tailings and found a bunch of flour gold I had missed along with a few flakes. I removed the riffles from the cal and added the same mat to it but I went a full 24" of matting vrs the 18" if riffles and carpet. Have yet to take that out to the claim and test. I do like the gold hog mat so far.

When working with mats, I found that mounting them to pond liner or EPDM rubber sheet works well. I trim the liner on the sides and top so that it's higher than the water level which keeps material from going underneath the mat. Follow Doc's instructions for installing the mat in a sluice, and just add or subtract for the liner of your choice. (side tape in Doc's video)

The mat in this pic allows a little material underneath at the cuts for the water system mounts. After 20-25 mat cleanings there's enough material underneath that warrants cleaning the trough.
