Gold (?) from tourist trap website

I have started getting intersted in prospecting and panning here in New England, so far I have just been reading and talking to people, but in the next month I hope to find the time to drive 3 hours up to NH or western Mass.
Anyhow a couple years ago someone gave me a couple tiny flakes of gold he found in Mass, they were very tiny in a small 1/8"+ vial but look rough, each about 1/32"-1/16" in diameter.

It made me take out a vial of "real gold" in a 1/4" vial it looks alot like gold leaf, which IS real gold, but not what we would think of real gold. I got it about 20 years ago and all the water has evaporated from the vial. I have been thinking of opening it up and checking it out.
It looks alot like a "tourist" thing, I can't remember where I got it.

I wonder if it is real or what it is?

Its gold leaf -real 22kt or 24 kt gold - but if you weigh it, you'll be lucky to get .01 gram (100th of a gram), which is not much. Millions of these have been sold
to tourists. That's my guess. nice pics!

They put oil in those vials too not water.If you take em out they will desintegrate...or so I have heard.Somebody has got bloody rich sellin those through the years!!

any mercury that comes into contact with it will bind to gold - and then the gold /mercury mixture will be pooed out of the body as it travels out the body via the digestive system is the general ideal of edible gold to purify the body from trace bits of heavy metal (mercury) trapped within the body --

but for this to work -- the gold needs to be non visible micro fine to pass thru the digestive tracts walls and to get into the blood stream to reach the bodys other organs do this process ---however due to the large flake size the gold in the booze will not travel thru bloodstream

the theory is sound * but the gold in booze is not the way to do it sadly -- it is a nice product however
