Hi. Can you help identify what this is? Found in CT. How would I clean the top to see more?

That's a late 18th - early 19th C Treble Gilt (gold gilt) button.


I doubt cleaning the front will give you any additional detail.


The back mark appears to say ?. ?. LEWIS TREBLE GILT


I can't read the two initials.


Does it still have thread or fabric in the shank?

As always Matt is spot on. The front is "toast" and there is a good chance that there was no design on it anyway. Use soap and water and LIGHTLY rub the back with a toothbrush.
