Gold chain, with clasp

Dug at an old beach today. Unique clasp still works, but what is it for? Rope chain, 7 inches long.

This is a cool find.
Have you cleaned it?
Is the clasp goldplated brass or am I only seeeing things? The chain seems to had been once goldplated, too. Should have benn allover verdigris and encrusted if all brass...

Cleaned up the best I could. Have no means to test, could be plated, clasp could be brass, I have no idea. Chain shows same reading as a known gold chainWhatever it is I like it!!
