Detector(s) used
Nokta FoRs Gold, a Gold Cube, 2 Keene Sluices and Lord only knows how many pans....not to mention a load of other gear my wife still doesn't know about!
Primary Interest:
Prospecting
When I purchased my GBPro from Bart he (nor anyone else in the country)
had the 2-Coil Combo in-stock, so instead I got just the GBPro with the
stock 5" round Double-D coil.

The 5" is great for getting into tight spots in rocky or tight terrain, but when
detecting open areas it doesn't cover much ground. I've yet to find gold, but
have located enough pieces of very small lead and iron that I have have full
confidence that when I do pass the coil over a findable nugget it's going to
tell me about it.

Recently found a very large, wide and (mostly dry) riverbed that I can nugget
shoot in. It goes for miles, and although the channel gets very wide at times,
the water flow is pretty much restricted to about a 30' section. This leaves
a large dry area of old riverbed for me to detect, and with the 5" it'll take
just about...forever.

For those that have both...do you find the 5x10" elliptical to be nearly as
sensitive as the 5" Double-D? Would you consider it's cost (approx. $170)
to be worth the investment?

There is a history (local native lore) about some pretty decent nuggets coming
from this drainage, and although I can never hunt it all, it's not far from home
and I have the time to hunt it. The 5x10 would make that much easier, but
I'm only willing to invest in the coil if it's performance is up there with the 5".

Thoughts?

NEL's website list no information of any of the coils for the Gold Bug's. In fact they do not list any information on any of their coils. I suppose were to guess what to buy.

Hahaha this is exactly the same way in which a new company from Australia was met here many years ago . Ignorance as tooo heavy, bulky, they cook on the barbie good but detectors no. Well MINELAB was that company with NEW ideas and innovations that was the giant killer and brought ALL the US units to their knees. Now the big kid on the block and folks plunk down $5,000+ and they can't produce them fast enough to meet demand. The EU and others have put hundreds of millions of RD $$$ into Bulgaria and they have produced fantastic coils for many years for numerous companies here in the US, and NOW new styles of detectors, that are also rewriting the rules same as Minelab did. When you want to learn something you can easily find a EXPERT like Steve Herschbach,James Straight,Bill Southern,Chris Gholson,Chris Ralph and many others to get good advice. Not a self quoting megalomaniac janitor but full time professional miners who have owned mines, businesses, fed their families, advanced our industry through innovation, educated beyond the norm and detected like myself for over 52 years. Newer better technology is here for those who dare and reap the rewards. All this insane rants because toooo heavey or cumberson or 1 person tried and failed hahaha-have fun as this thread is dead to me as you can't cure stubborn ignorance EVER-John

Hey AzViper, sorry it took me a while to get back to you but yes that is the same coil I am talking about. F75 for GB Pro

Augoldhunter, you will get a bit more noise just about anytime you go to a larger coil, they are just a bit more receptive to the surroundings. I am going to check out one of the smaller NEL coils as I have heard good info about them. Thanks for your opinions.

Rebel73153, just to keep things straight the GB II and GB Pro do not run the same frequency. Coil fittings are not the same on these two units. If you want to try a new coil for the GB Pro then get a coil that will fit an F75, they are compatible.

DizzyDigger, you do not know until you give it a try, new discoveries are made daily. Good luck

Nuggetshooter323, I also wish that they would have made a 5 or 6 inch eliptical boot for the GB Pro instead of the 5 inch round.

Extractor, I feel the same, as both coils do have their own place in detecting. Many times I hunt for gold in high trash areas and this is where the GB Pro excels.

I was a bit irritated at one of the previous posts

Quote, my response...

To all; Who is the self quoting megalomaniac janitor? I work in the nursing field at the Redding Veterans Home providing care for our Vets. I know it's not me.

As for knowing people, I know all the names quoted above and talk to a few of them daily, and have also hunted with a few of them over the years.

As for time gold detecting, I have only been doing that for a little over forty years. I started with the Whites 6000 DI and the Garrett Ground Hog and both of those were top of the line in their day. We use to be able to find half ounce nuggets an inch deep at the Golden Eagle/Big Easy in Northern Nevada back then. Times and technology have changed. I did fantastic back then, and gold was only about $200.00 an ounce, so I guess that would throw me into that professional slot.

Too heavy and cumbersome, yes, the butterfly coil was for me. Most people on this forum know where I live and are aware of the thick manzanita that I crawl through. The larger, open web design caught up on too many branches. Too me there is not enough sensitivity gained for several hundred dollars output. The GB Pro/ten inch coil is a top notch combination.

As for the coil being new and innovative, yes, working better than anything else out there,no. A good friend of mine agrees that you get more ground coverage on a bigger piece of gold, but when it comes to the crumbs he and his partner go with the ten and five inch coils on the GB Pro. This couple has found a lot of gold with their GB Pros, however, my friend says most was found with the two smaller coils.

I will agree with the quote about MineLab, most people resisted change and were very leery of the new units when they first came out. I was not one of these people as I bought all the gold detectors that MineLab successively came out with and I was one of the first to do so. I stopped at the 3000 because I did not see the need for anything more advanced than the 3000. Most of my gold has come out at six to twelve inches and I can get a pennyweight nugget at eighteen inches, why do I need more? My GB Pro fills the void. I continue to find gold.

As for business's, been there and done that after my military years. In the last fifteen years I have found it to be a lot easier working for someone else. I go to work, punch in, get holidays, sick days, comp days, personal time days and I get to work with the Vets of whom I am very close to as I am one. My time is very well compensated as I work for the State of California. I have a schedule that allows me lots of time with my wife, family and friends and this is good. I do not have the headaches of business and I am doing just fine.

As far as new technology and keeping up with it I think I stay on top of things pretty well. I share any information on this forum as much as I can. Sometimes new is just not as good as what you have been used to.

On a final note, everyone on this forum has a right to their own opinion and I think most people on this forum are very capable of making a final decision based on the information received. I really do not think everyone on this forum runs out and does what I advise or suggest. I am sure there are other members of this forum that had or have business's and are just as educated and capable of making daily decisions. Please do not put words in other peoples mouths.

Again, any forum member who is travelling through my area shoot me a PM and maybe we can get out for a few hours.

Ray thanks for clearing up some of my questions. Have no clue who Mr. Know It All is referring to as a megalomaniac janitor, but who cares what ones job title may be, but if he's a government employee he's knocking down $75K pushing a broom. Yeah I thought you were referring to the F75.

Ray, no need to defend your job or skills. That's silly. I know several guys that find a pound or two of gold every years with their detectors, and most don't do do it as their sole profession. I guess their not "professional miners", but they seem to know what they are doing...

You go above and beyond to help out the newbies and not-so-newbies alike on the various forums, and we all appreciate it.

The GB/G2 series are designed to work with the DD's from the "Fratbros" (a.k.a. "Greek") lineup (Tek alpha, delta, gamma, omega, and also F5 and Euroteks). If you plug in an F75 coil it may or may not seem to work, but in any case it is not matched properly to the electronics. Won't harm anything though.

Ray this is a very good point and one I must consider in the purchase of a coil. Here in southern Arizona you name it and it is growing on the hillsides that will grab your clothing and the coil. Ray thanks for all you have done to help me and others for your input and the willingness to help when some in these forums offer no help other than be on the attack mode and take cheap shots at a fallen Arizona miner.

dave is there any thing better then the fisher 10 OEM equipment . im thinking you are the man

John all I can say is you have no limits and no class to what you will say in an open forum. I don't know you and I hope our paths never cross. I can't say what I would really like to say in these forums, but I do have class to withhold what needs to be said. I am totally amazed of the crap that spills from your keyboard.

Now that last post seems like the Best plan to me. Take personal stuff to a PM

Gentlemen: For whatever it's worth at this point, I no longer
have the Gold Bug Pro I had originally asked the coil question
about
. It's been replaced with my new Gold Cube.

The question is still valid for other GB Pro users, but it certainly
is frustrating to see good men arguing over jots, tiddles and
specmanship!

Keep it civil or do not post. Do not copy a bad post in your reply or it will be deleted as well. Very simple. Stay on OP's topic.
Thanks.

John you have been warned before..

Last warning Keep it civil or find you can't post at all for many weeks...

I deleted a bunch of post last night. I have never seen grown men squabble over a coil before. Then you all are still hitting the report button again today after cleaning it up. I am closing this thread as Dizzy has moved on.
