This is a culmination of three hunts, two different places. Yesterday was the killer day though. A rise in the fields looked like a good place to go, I worked myself there. There were pieces of melted tin, small lead shot, and melted copper strewn everywhere on the hill. I loaded two big pouches of the crap with only hitting an Indian penny. I got frustrated and moved to a little incline attached to the hill. That is when a bright 92 signal screamed in my headphones. Out pops the 1847 half dollar in beautiful shape. The 1877 S seated quarter was two feet away followed by another 92 signal, and out pops the Bolivia 1789 2 Reale. A few minutes later out comes a silver cuff. I was in silver signal city, it was like Christmas. Usually when I get in a good area its fried coppers, and large cents, mixed with buttons. I was in disbelief. Things got quiet so I worked my way towards the bottom of the incline and dug another seated, a 1839 half dime. This was just unbelievable. . I worked my way toward the top of the rise again digging more lead shot and then another identical lead shot signal, a glimpse of something small, round, and yellow. I was like, did I just see that, it couldn't be. I pinpointed it out of the pile and there she sat, my first gold coin, and she is a beaut. While researching the 1847 seated half dollar, I found that it is one of only thirty known in the population report. It is a rare 7 over 6 over date. It is a shame the plow had its way with it, but its still a rare bird... Art
Hunting the large farm fields I found a section with lots of little shards of brick. The site was late 1600s, the land owner said it had burned down in the mid 1700s. He knew of the homestead but didn't know where it was located in the 600 acres. Nipple buttons, clog clasp, 1/2 cent Farthings, and a 1723 Hibernia, gave up the site. Lots of buttons, but no silver. I was waiting for a cob to show up. Also found was a knapsack hook, along with a militia button, and a very oddly shaped key fobish horn. The only thing I could think of was possibly a pipe tobacco tamper, and clean out tool. Have to hit it again after the next plowing.
Hunted another field that had a small handful of buttons along with a heel plate, and toe plate. A pair of large cents, one 1827, the other a lead counterfeit. When I pulled the lead counterfeit out it was thick like a chain cent. It took a few seconds to register that it was heavy, thick, and just not right. Very cool lead coinage. It has been one heck of a week, one that I wont soon forget... Art

Good Lorrrrrd, what a banner hunt, I'm speechless with my jaw hitting the floor and my eyes bugging out. How do you even respond to a hunt like that? Banner for sure. That gold is gorgeous.

Good grief Art! You don't seem to go out that often, but when you go out, you go out in style!! They don't make fields like that in western PA. I'm voting banner for the silver and gold coins in this post.

Great day!! That's a nice mix of coins and relics! That gold dollar would have given me a mini heart attack! Great job!!

Wow!!!! Wow I say!!!! Digging old silver coins is so much fun. Can't even imagine what it feels like to top it iff with a gorgeous gold coin. That site is amazing and I guarantee you there's some cobs or small silvers there. I hope you get back and post another amazing hunt. Like you said we sometimes have hunts where we dig a few old coppers which is great. Not often we start pulling out the old silvers and gold. Great job bud

Thanks for your wonderful comments, and putting my special day up on the banner. I'm still shaking my head in disbelief that it happened, and took all of twenty five minutes. Thanks all, and great hunting. Art

I am starting to think the poor old southerners around here didn't have allot of silver and gold to drop,,either that or I just can't find it,absolutly amazing finds!
