Back out at low tide,
found this round item.
Tests 14K+, 29mm, 2.4 Gr.
some of the design aspects resemble a Dandy button,
I'm thinking it is the face to a brooch or pendant.
Note one side is more worn, has a single slightly off center hole.
Anyone got an idea on date, usage ? :icon_scratch:
.50 Cal practice round, Adjustable square,
remains of a cigarette box with Chinese lions,
more numbered brass tags, think I got these IDed, old lobster trap tags :hello2:
Other whatsit items,
Something that looks like a hanger of sorts, the angled slot would hold something..
Thought the next one was a radiator cap, til I cleaned it, and saw the gear and spiral inside.
Also the small caps with slot, about .5 inches Diameter,
have found many at different sites.
Anyone seen any of these items before? :help:

Hoping to get back out in the woods today, away from the mudflats,
that snow is melting fast !!
Thanks for looking, HH All

Re: Gold Again! But What Is It?

Herbie, I don't have a clue what the gold thing is but I really like it. However, I don't see a spoon-LOL. HH, Quindy.

I think the spiral groove thingy is a percussion cap dispenser for muzzleloading firearm percussion caps...possibly a Colt pattern.

This :icon_thumright:

Re: Gold Again! But What Is It?

Good lord Herbie looks like I'm going to have to change your name again to the Golden Goose.... :laughing7: Anyway if I had to venture a guess on your gold piece i start with carriage clocks. There's alot that have the gold in the dial like that I have one that is 25mm so 29mm could still fit I'd think.
Take Care,
Pete, :hello:

Ivan, i think you nailed these little items, size is consistent, iron wire long gone..
Thanks for the info on these!

Re: Gold Again! But What Is It?

I think there's no doubt now that the snail item is a percussion cap dispenser :hello2:
Many Thanks to auprospector44, MKIII, Sean, Swampcreek, and Civilman1.
Very pleased to have found another Firearm related piece

That clock is a beauty Pete :o
Any info on it's date ?
BTW, there were other clock pieces in the vicinity, including the ratchet gear with wooden shaft, found the previous day I believe, and within 10 feet (this is soaking and will be treated with pentacryl)
I've been going over this site extremely slow,,,
It is target rich and seems virgin.
I'll see if I can find info about dating wooden clock works.
I don't think wood has been used for a long time,
And I think your ID is spot on
thanks for the help! Best digs to you :hello:

Thanks Mike! Now i have 3 musket parts and a related piece :D
I appreciate your banner vote on that disc, maybe I'll recover some more of the clock, & we can get it up there, Need the case, I think it would have been wood.
I recall a couple targets that came out with freshly broken wood fragments in the plug. :-\ I'll concentrate on some of those overload signals... ya never know
Best to you & HH

They just didn't make the cut in the OP,
had too many other items with questions...
Hope to get back out today!

Re: Gold Again! But What Is It?

I still have one more item, anyone seen something like this?
I'm thinking a hanger of sorts, 3 rivets hold it on a leather belt.
V shaped slot would accept appropriate match on rifle strap or scabbard :icon_scratch:

Not sure on the date of mine Herbie it was from my granddad that pasted away last year.A guess would be late 1800's-early 1900's as they had quite a few items that dated to that range.Without looking very hard here are some others to see what I mean.I think I remember somewhere they were made 1800's up...

thanks Pete :hello:
I see a couple on tomsclocks site with similar ornament...
If the disc and woodshaft gear are from the same clock, (Probable)
I'm guessing it would date pre 1800, considering the style of design on the disc,
and the wooden shaft.
Guessing is a key word here as there were wooden pocketwatches being made in Russia at the turn of the century :o
HH all! thanks for looking

Blaze, I think Pete, (Timekiller) solved this with his antique clock photo above.
It's a decorative trim to an old clock, why gold? don't know...
3 Grams of gold (actually about 1-1/2, as it tests 14K) was not a lot of money compared to what it cost for a handmade clock in Colonial Times.
(Date guess judging by the decorative motif & wooden shaft)
