John and I played a hunch based on good evidence but came up empty today, no silver and no Indians at the new site, but we gave it a good kickin' and scraped up just a handful of wheats, but, hey, we had to try. After 3 hours of beatin' the bushes we met back at the vehicles and John says "You want to go back to the mansion?" So we did.

Try as we may there, the Indians remained elusive today, so my December total stands, as it did on Thursday at 19. There was one sweet find back at the mansion and this was the 1899 O mint Barber dime. Down just 5 inches, I was stunned to see that "ONE DIME" staring up at me, and thankful to finish December with silver.

The day brought some interesting glassware/pottery finds as well. Notably, the older coca-cola bottle piece from which the "D" in PAT'D and the "23" from 1923 can be seen, and the large aquamarine partial bottle base with the words "NEW YORK". So the marble streak stopped today just as the Indians went silent once again.

Thanks to everyone on TreasureNet who's followed/encouraged throughout 2016. Happy hunting to you guys in 2017!

You're still the "Chief" in my book, McCDig........at the very least, "Medicine Man".............:laughing7:

That Barber is stunning........nice way to end 2016!! Happy New Year to you.................

Congrats on a sweet barber to end the year!!

Thanks deershed. That's the second Barber I've dug at this location this year. We ventured into the woods today and moments after heading in I was surprised by four bucks running north to south about 50 feet ahead of me. The first three had at least 6 pts each and were followed by a spike buck. All this in Baltimore City.

Sweet looking Barber dime, congratulations! :occasion14:

Congrats on ending the season with that sweet Barber McCDig. Im looking forward to seeing your "Best of 2016" finds post.

Happy New Year McDig! I love those Barbers too. I'm always up for finding a good Indian or even a crusty LC. It should be a beautiful day today, go find another Indian to start your year off right. I'm going and I hope to find some silver coins or old Injuns!

Congrats on two barbers from the same site!!
You'd be surprised at the number of deer running the cities. That's where I got my usename "deershed". I shed hunt for the shed antlers and most my shed hunting is done in Montgomery county. Too many sniper hunts and the county wanting all the deer dead but, still find my share still, one year I found 160 something sheds.
Most my areas are parks or county owned property.
Make a couple trips again in that same park in another month or so and you just might find some different treasures.

Thx L-D! Happy New Year! Your idea was a boon in two respects: it led me to review the last 12 months and choose what was a personal favorite, and this formed the basis of how I'll organize my talk later on this year to the Harford Coin Club. I'm not a member but was invited last year to give a presentation on metal detecting and it looks like I'll be doing something similar for them in 2017.

Thanks Art! Happy Hunting in 2017! I agree, the Barber was a great ending to a fantastic year.

Happy New Year, treblehunter! Didn't get out today, but hope you had some success. Always good to get out, isn't it?! Hope to get out tomorrow AM early. Expecting damp and cold, but I'll dress for it and see what surfaces on January 2, 2017.

I've heard from the park ranger who lives across the road that he gets some sheds from time to time. We had two of our sons over for dinner the day after Christmas and we had a good laugh recalling when they were youngins and I "dragged" the both of them across the road to a thicket where I had found a large buck that had just died. While they stood a distance away I hacksawed the antlers and later mounted them to a finished board and hung them in the kitchen. There they've stayed for more than twenty years. One side has 9 points and the other 8.

Thx ATW! Happy New Year! Yes, I was sorry to see John head home with no Injuns or silver, but he's had some good days at the mansion, too.

Video link added to post on January 8, 2017. This shows recovery of 1899 Barber dime.

Very nice Barber. Congrats!

I have enjoyed your posts all year, and look forward to more this year. I sincerely wish you the best of luck!

Much appreciated, Tom. Happy Hunting in 2017. Looks like some excellent huntin' weather later this week.
