So I took someone on a hunt to share the hobby. We did not find much except a few old nails and a lead bullet which the guest (who BTW was quite chatty and a bit zealous in digging which made me appreciate the solitude of woods hunting [emoji6]) was excited about so I hesitantly gave it up. Rain and lightning ended the short hunt.

Two days later I retreat to the woods in a new to me area and was thankful I consciously wore orange as I found 15 various lead bullets and brass shell casings-evidence of much hunting in the area now near a park.

I was also treated to an eye popping ring which must be a fake diamond in this brass ring. I later found a toasted buffalo nickel and a sweet silver mercury.

Other interesting finds included a skeleton type lock, an old looking iron, three prong fork (which electrolysis cleaned up nicely- he fork is broken from the handle so I was able to clean the broken prongs well! It looks rather old. I think I found a dog tag...not sure which war? There is also a hollow pointy brass piece with slight lines of design around it that I cannot figure out what it is...thinking something sword related or Indian tinklerImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1540615370.902111.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1540615383.041514.jpg piece...but it could be something less interesting. Also found a mashed plate...tin? not sure..maybe just an old pie plate.

Also found two axe heads...one looks like a Connecticut axe and I am not sure of the smaller one.

...and, of course, seems I always find a golf ball LOL!

Your brass piece looks like a parasol or cane tip.,,

wow thats some old relics looks like a good place to keep rippin into great post and pics

The dog tag might be from the Korean war era. The number on the tag is not too far from my dad's number, who was a Korean vet. Gary

Wow! Nice finds!

That stuff was in the ground a really long time. It's surprising the brass tube shotshell is in such good condition. The only place I ever saw them for sale was Hurter's Inc. I think they were somewhere in Michigan and was the only remnant of the Hudson's Bay Trading Company, fur traders.

Best wishes and good luck!

Congratualtions on the nice assortment of finds! :occasion14:

Thanks, Toddspoint. That is helpful. I looked up the people by that name and found someone 75 who has moved to Maine from this area and WWIi wouldn’t work for age and dates but the Korean war would! Thanks to your dad for his service. My dad was in the Korean war as well but I don’t have his tags. I will try to contact this person.

Thanks Reanm8er...

At first I thought I found a brass shell but this one has a typical brass end but a gold plastic shell. Unusual. I usually find red or green plastic.

Nice finds! :icon_thumleft: Nice Merc! That Buffalo is really toasted! Had to look twice to see what it was! lol

Thanks...you and me both LOL.

Very nice! Love the Merc. The buff looks like it was chewed up and spat out. Sheesh! Must be tough soil.

Nice "woods" hunting. The orange is a good idea. Congrats on your finds.

Quite an interesting array of finds, congrats! However I gotta say that it looks like your Buffalo is on the verge of extinction, might want to feed it something lol.
