1-19-2012 :icon_sunny: Hi TN TH ers , Until yesterday getting lucky meant finding my car in the mall parking lot. A few winter hunts with nothing to shout about led to a desperation move to hunt a cellar hole that has been pounded out for decades by countless others including myself . I started on the outer perimeter where my first keeper was a laborer badge or hat emblem WJ RR related . I hit a few flat buttons which goes with the old theory that a place is never hunted out . I was told a 1860 Army Colt pistol came out of this hole . ::) Never know . This cellar hole is a big one as seen in the pic . Early 1800's :icon_scratch: wealthy landowner mansion . Sifting through the debris of red brick is a pain but it was worth it . Button , another button , a few more buttons , nails , a button , more nails , a button etc. :laughing7: Three missed coins in the rubble . My first for 2012 Bust dime and two 1840's large cents . The well worn dime is a 1821 but it has been a while for an early dime , in fact that hunt produced a couple of sweet coins and made it to the top :hello2: . At first glance the black disc was a one reale . Found out hours later that is wasn't Spanish but early US silver :icon_scratch: after a few baths to get the black oxidation off to get some detail . :o A great start for the New year and finally got a little action out here in the jersey woods . Thanks for stopping in , :hello2: 8) dawg

Great Digs! Congrats! :icon_thumleft:
I wish you many more.

That is some nice finds man.

It is really hard to hunt a site out. I have cellar holes that are the same. Pounded to death. But let them sit or hunt a little slower and there is always something left.

HH Jer

Nice! A silver Bust is on my wish list.

Slow is key , searchin' where others don't want to move debris works for me ... most will not dig through the rubble but I get closer to the outer foundation perimeter . Makes sense that coins where lost near the hole .. usually the yards have been worked over and much has already been pulled unless you have more exp. to go deep

You pulled some great finds there Dawg ;D
Are you really sifting ?
I got a few holes and dumps so full of brick & iron, MDing is definitely only scratching the surface.
Was thinking of attempting the sifter, never actually did it...
Congrats on the Bust & Coppers
