Got out yesterday to with the XP Deus HF Round coil and dug some interesting items. Union R Button, 1858 US dime, Jacksonian Period Washington Commemorative Button with George Washington's bust on the front (referenced in Albert's button book, page 415- PC48). I also dug a very thick reeded and odd sized coin that I'm still trying to clean the crust off of to ID it?

That is a nasty looking coin! But interesting!! Good luck with cleaning and its value...........63bkpkr

24.7mm is about 1" in diameter so if U.S. coin likely a quarter. But what year, what type, mint mark, metal content, value - so many questions so few answers.

I try to “practice” metal detecting every day that I can even if it’s only for 15 minutes. LOL.

Nice old silver and very cool relics, congratulations! :icon_thumleft:

Congrats on the Seated and buttons!

Yes still ugly, yes likely foreign but a possible 1800's date could still make it interesting. good luck with the cleaning, soaking, etc..........63bkpkr

Excellent finds

I would be very surprised if the unidentified object isn’t a presidential campaign ferrotype. I have one and it appears very similar with the circular center piece. Give me a little time and I will see if I can nail it down

I had already put it through 2 rounds of electrolysis in the pictures.

It was just a thought. I also use a brass brush between several short rounds of electrolysis.

So this is what the campaign ferrotype I dug looked like. That center piece just looks too perfectly round to me. If you can string together a few of the letters we can prob pin it down. And there’s the possibility that I’m completely off base. But I know some of these were right around 24 mmImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1546646694.242311.webp

I will clean it off more to confirm, but I believe you are right!!! It looks like the same writing on the sides and has the exact same shape with reeded edge and thick.
