Went back to my virgin site Sunday, temps stared out at 47. Sure was good to feel the cool temps in the air.

I've really pounded this spot & targets are really hard to find. This is the 2nd time I've been there & no coins. There has got to be a few more there but we really need a good week of solid rain to soak the ground.
Found this weird lead item, its as wide as a nickel & has some weight to it.

On my way back out I searched for another site that has eluded me & as luck would have it I saw a LOT of clam shells, so I followed them in & found the well. It looks like they buried the cellar hole under the main road next to the well.

Seeing I had time to kill I swung a bit & got me the small flat button& this buckle. Any ideas on the buckle? Wandered around & got a good signal & out popped KG III.

I just ordered a new 6x10 Eclipse DD, with my $100 Gift Certificate from Whites. It will be interesting to see how this coil does back at the virgin site.

HH,
Roger

looks like a flattened musket ball... great finds

Great finds, love the George.

Another Machin's Mills for you. The 7 in your date looks at a slightly different angle, but I think that's just the picture because everything else looks good for 1788 MACHIN'S MILLS HALFPENNY -

As always Thanks IP for your help! Out of curiosity how do you ID a Machins from a legit? Is it a Machins due to those pouty lips?

Both sides are slightly different than a King George, and once you look at the MMs enough they jump out at you a little. Every once in a while I go over them because some of the rarer ones I'm not sure I'd recognize right away... but that shouldn't matter in most cases because it would be different enough to get my attention.

Regarding your lead item, I found something very similar earlier this year in south Jersey. It has a hole through it and there's some sort of symbol on it. No one here has been able to tell me what it is. It's also about the same diameter as a nickel and pretty chunky.

That almost looks like a mold for a rivet or some type of pin (not for sewing).

Interesting thought, but it's made out of lead, not sure how they would make a rivet out of a harder metal with it...it's an interesting piece. I'll try and take measurements for you so you can compare it to yours.

Another great hunt, Rebel! Georgeous Georgius!

Yes, I was sure that it was either a seal or a weight. It's missing the two tell-tale holes in the side though so I was leaning towards a weight of some sort. It does have a hole going through the front and that "rivet-like" impression. The site we dug it at was giving up Colonial items and this one was pretty deep so I believe it stems from that era. It's chunky just like the one Reb found though. Interesting mystery.
