Could this be one of the Generals medals commissioned by congress in 1776 after the victory at boston to honor the revolutionary war Generals??

Great find indeed! Would you be able to post a picture of the obverse?

This looks very similar to the medal known as Baker 159, sometimes called the "Stuart Portrait" medal, which was struck in white metal. If so, the exact lettering should read "GENL. GEORGE WASHINGTON." The reverse has an oak wreath enclosing "BORN FEB. 22D. 1732 DIED DECR. 14 1799." Not much is known about it, but it is thought to have been issued in the early 1800's, probably in England rather than the U.S. It lists for $200-275 in Fine to Very Fine condition.

Thank you very much for you're research and/or knowledge.I new someone would know more about it than I.I will now try and find a picture of baker 159 / stuart portrait. While the oak laureles are quite visible on reverse, not much of anything else is as a pit the size of a pencil eraser has "exploded" I doubt its monetary value is very much .But thanks again to All for the input and I will be visiting this site alot now I know where I can find out just about everything here and meet some new friends.Oh I forgot the OR in born is visible on back so you may have hit it on the head. :)
