Hey, I asked this in General Discussion, but I haven't gotten any answers.

I'm looking to get a pinpointer to go with my AT Pro... but I can't afford the hefty $150 cost for the Garrett version that I like.

So: does anyone out there use Fisher's F-Point model? How's it handle? Does it find everything? Is it comparable to the Garrett ProPointer? Would like to get opinions from people who actually USE it or have used it.

Thanks

I use a Garrett ProPointer and woouldnt use any other. Got it from Bart at Bigboy hobbies and it was no where near 150.

I went to Harbor Freight tools and got a hand held metal detector to find nails in studs. Works great! $7!! If you don't have one close to you, check it out online and order one. Uses one 9v battery.

I thought the Garrett Pro was only $130? Get a used one on eBay. I've been using it for about a year and I"m not going to use anything else... Vibrates.. Light.. Awesome tool!

Even $130 is a little beyond me right now. But the Fisher F-Point I can get on eBay for $60; I just want to know if it's worth the $60, or if it's no different then buying one from Harbor Freight. Actually, I did try the one from Harbor Freight and I didn't like it.

My grandson uses the fisher f point and he would rather use the Harbor freight pinpointer, than the f point.

IMHO save your change for a Garrett. You won't regret it! HH

See, that's what I wanted to know. I know the ProPointer is the best one... I wanted to know what was second best, lol... Seems I might have to save for the ProPointer after all...

There are several pinpointers that are obviously made in China and then the various brands slap a sticker on it. I have a Vibra-probe- you can get nice ones on ebay used. Waterproof and no switches to malfunction.

I started out with the fischer. Since it was the only pinpointer I had ever used I thought it worked great. If you were within an inch and a half from a coin it would buzz and sound off. I heard everybody raving about the Garrett pinpointer so I saved up for it and bought one.
There is no comparison between the two. The Garrett blew it away! Easier to turn on and off with no pre adjustment everytime. The Garrett picks up coins 2-3 inches away easily. If you supertune it you can get 3-5 inches from it. Thats what I do. I pinpoint it with my MD then use the Garrett pinpointer to find out exactly where the coin is before I dig, which saves time and I don't need to dig a big plug.

My suggestion is to not waste half of the price you would spend on the Garrett for the Fischer pinpointer and get the Harbour freight one for now for $15 and then save your money for the Garrett. You won't regret it.

Really, any pin pointer is a step forward..... Last years great pin pointer was the Vibra Prob as Sovereignelite said. I have and still use my freebee auto-max pin pointer from K.co and use it with my ATpro. I have a Sunray on my MXT now, but really as I said any pin pointer is a plus. They help finding targets at least by half, to me they are a must to have. However with experience you tend to learn to handle the dirt and use the pointer less. I'd just get whatever you can !!
Keep @ it and HH !!

I have both the Garrett & Fisher the Fisher is a good back-up Works as it should but not close to the Garrett

Bouht my fisher f point off ebay--$50.00 works fine---but i must be gettin old cause i cant hear the beep worth a damn, anyone else have this problem with a fisher f point ?

You should have asked Santa...it does make a great x-mas gift.

i'll like to add that i got the Bounty hunter one with my detector, which is the same as the f-point, it was "alright" but i was still scratching around to find things , it only point on the tip,

so i splurged and got the minelab pointer, MAN what a diffrence, i took it out to the back yard just by its self, and a digger tool, (my back yard is LOADED with buried trash from former owners) my first pass it went off, i dug it and found a small screwdriver i had dropped couple years ago, but it kept going off in the hole, even with the sens. turned down, a little scratching around and up came a horse shoe!

I have to admit that Garrett with the little light was enough for me to cross to wooded ridges coming out late one night. It sure saves time in recovery. I like it. Does not compare even close to the harbor freight model.

Just find a gold ring first. Problem solved. ;)

By the by, the Pro-Pointer's most sensitive spot is not straight down thru the point. It's sideways from a spot on the side of the point. Test it out when you get one.

HH!

Santa brought me an AT Pro, Lesche trowel, and scoop this year. I didn't want to push my luck ;)

I think I am going to try for the ProPointer. Ace350 has a good point; why waste half the $ of the Pro on second best?

I had one of those fisher pin pointers and it was garbage . I gave it away. Maybe it was just the one I had but you had to be touching the metal for it to go off. My garret was 126.00 new and it rocks!

There is nothing wrong with the fisher f-point, admittedly it only gets about a half inch of range, but afterall it is a pin pointer, and you already know approximately where the target is. I will say this it is a bit of a pain to have to turn it on , and adjust it where as the garrett is just one push of a button. No question which is my favorite. but if I had a limited budget a f-point would still be better than no pin pointer at all.

Garrett pro pointer is the best, the list of reasons is long.
