Get some headphones to go with it! That thing is LOUD when it goes off without them. Make sure they have adjustable volume control too, or you'll go deaf. When you get the money, I found a pro pointer really made detecting much more enjoyable. Enjoy it!

My Garrett Ace 250 just came in a few days ago!!! Cant wait to use it...unfortunately college hasn't granted me the time to get out and use it yet so I have to wait till next weekend =( Cant wait though!

if you have any questions about it let me know and i will help the best i can

Thanks everyone for the Advice!!! I cant wait to take this thing out on a hunt =) HH

This is the machine we have. Trust me I knew nothing about MD. THIS machine is awesome! If you have any concerns feel free to ask. I will share with you my experiences thus far.

Good machine to get you going. When I first started a piece of advice i was given was, "to dig everything" So that after a while you get to know what your machine is telling you.
Sadly pull tabs and some gold rings are very close in conductivity so if you are digging pull tabs you may find a gold ring .. Haha I have yet to score that " gold ring" myself yet :)
Good luck out there :)

I'm looking for a really good metal detector for myself and my 8 year old son to start an adventure together.. Can you take most metal detectors in water or do you have to have one for land and one for water?

Virtually all detectors are waterproof to the box. The Garrett AT Pro is said to be submersible to 10 feet. Besides, I've never heard of a lake in FL more than 2 feet deep! (tsk, tsk) TTC

can you please explain what a pro pointer is and if it's needed? i am just starting out and researching for models.

A Garrett Pro-Pointer is a hand held detector that you use to help you recover your find more quickly. Once you find something with your detector and you open a hole to find it, it's often difficult to find it. The Pro-Pointer helps you find it quicker.

Once you have a pinpointer, you'll wonder how you lived without it.
