Fur trade axe or other tool?

Found this broken tool in an area where a Seneca tribe inhabited and the jesuits frequented also. Was also an area with high traffic in the fur trade. I have found 2 musket balls from this same area dati g back to the 1600s.This object still has a bit of a sharp edge to it.

Looks like some of the broken leaf springs I've found.

I'm almost certain that it was a tool at one point. The edges look as though they have been repeatedly sharpened and there's a very distinot angle that it was made.
