What a beautiful day in Alabama yesterday. James of Alabama, a member of Tnet, wrote me and said he and a hunting buddy would be on my side of the world. I had a soccer game to attend, but I told him I would swing by his hunting spot and say howdy. Drove to the site and met them, chatted for a minute or two and went on my way to the game. After the soccer game I came back home and called DiggerBug (Lisa). She had been busy painting the laundry room but with this perfect weather day going on and a tiny little bit of encouragement we changed into our hunting clothes and headed out to the site where I had met James and Gary. After filling them in on some of the history of the area, we settled down in one of my favorite sites to hunt. Not being there a few minutes, James hollers, "Hey! I found something!" AND he did! I'll let him tell what he found, but here's his pic right after that find! :D

A few more minutes goes by and I find a nickel! Lisa gets the water bottle out and tells me it's a 1911 V.
Even though I was having a super great time, I had something weighing heavy on my mind. My son has been working on getting his pilots license and today was his solo cross country flight. :P After hours of worry, he calls and says he's back and had a great flight. Thank goodness that's over! :D

Now I have the rest of the day without having to think about that. Lisa finds a keeper but I'll let her tell what it was.

We moved up the road a bit to a new spot to see what might be there.

This place is like a jungle. :-X And I'm thinking, please, Lord, don't let me step on a snake! :D

Lots of trash there, but some goodies too. I ended up finding an old dog tag. James swears it looks like the date reads 1820, and after cleaning it, it does...but Alabama wasn't a state until late 1890's? 1819's ??? ;D ;) It's gotta be 1920, but I was still happy to have found it. The collar that it's on is very crude though. Also found a miners tag, but has no number stamped on it.

Everyone found some good keepers, but James got one that was my favorite! It's a beauty! Definitely my favorite find of the day! Can't wait to see it all cleaned up! :o POST THAT FIND!

I had a great time and hope the others did too. It was a pleasure to meet you two. :)

OH...and what about that game!!!! WAR EAGLE!

What a great story! You all look like you are having alot of fun! Many congtrats to you for your finds and to your son for his solo flight conquest!

Actually Alabama was admitted as a state in 1819, but that tag looks aluminum. Must be 1920.

Nana...looks like all of you had a great time and lots of fun. Congrats to your Son on his accomplishment.

BTW...normally I would not even give a "hoot" to the War Eagles but anybody that beats Florida deserves a Yee Haw (Go Vols!)

Oh man, Nana...what a grand day you had. Love all the pics, and you think that's a jungle there, gosh here it's enough room where barely a rabbit could fit. ;D Can't wait to see what James found!! Oh, I see 1920 on the tag...that's how the "9" looked then...look at the 9 on your keyboard. ;D Rest up gal, I'll see you Friday in Caldwell. Congrats to son!

Nana, if I meditate real hard for a long time can I become southern?

Ya, I'm almost sure now I was stolen as a child from some house in Bama!

I continue in my hopeless effort to convince my wife to move down south :'(

Great story. It's always fun to get out with some friends for a hunt. I almost feel like I was there. Green, you're probably right. It looks like a barber look, possibly a quarter or half?

Looks like a great day! Congrats to your son!
