full tones zero discrim anybody hunt this way?

All the time. I may use a notch of 0-75 when coinshooting but otherwise deus fast full tones very little if any disc. May drop reactivity to 2 on quiet sites or for just a little more depth. Sensitivity cranked. Usually 94 but I will try lowering sensitivity especially in iron

are you running tx power at 1 or 2?

Tx power 2( havent tried 1 or 3) and usually 12khz but will change to 7khz when coinshooting sometimes and 18khz in iron. I us id norm too. I have the 11" coil and as others have said, it is a bit chatty in 8khz more so in 4khz

I bought mine with the 11 but I picked up a used 9 and 13 . I used the 9 today in heavy iron and picked out 16 non ferrous targets that we had missed. one colonial buckle and percussion cap the rest were shotgun shells and pieces of old lead anyone of those targets could have been a button.I had my tx on 1 but switch to 2 I might try the 18 in the iron tommorrow.

Just a word about switching transmit power. I agree that TX 2 is probably a good middle of the road Tx power. If you are hunting in highly mineralized ground, Tx power of 3 or even 2 may cause issues not unlike turning on high beams in the fog, and you may have to reduce TX power down to 2 or 1 to be effective even though you are taking a hit on depth (but what good is depth is you can't discern the target). Note that if you are running at 4khz, TX is fixed at 3 and cannot be adjusted lower.

One quirk in the ver 3.2 software involves the silencer and reactivity. If you want to run silencer off (-1) or 0 (minimal silencer) consistent with running the machine wide open as discussed above with 0 or little discrim and full tones (which drives me nuts, BTW, I use four tones, but that is just a personal preference) changing reactivity causes the software to change the silencer setting to a default number which is dependent on the ractivity setting. The lower reactivity settings of 0 and 1 have a default silencer setting of 3 which causes signficant depth loss. The higher reactivity settings have lower default silencer settings, but not 0 or -1 which is typically the most desirable silencer setting from a max performance standpoint. So whenever you adjust reactivity, go into expert mode and check and adjust your silencer setting to your preferred setting. A more detailed description of this appears in my post here: http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/deus/487970-how-deal-emi.html#post4853408.

FWIW - When I am trying to run wide open for maximum depth I switch from one of my discrimination custom presets (typically run disc at 8 with Rx 2 or 3, TX at 2 and 4 tones including some level of iron volume) to Gold Field which is basically an all metal mode in an adjacent custom program slot where the tone varies with depth of the target and VDI displays the conductivity. IO listen for a discrim tone hit then switch to GF to zero in on the target. This works really well when the intial discrim program tone is iffy or hard to repeat indicating perhaps a deep target Gold Field lets me lock in on the the target to factor into the decision to dig. Do you ever have a problem with small foil while hunting in Goldfield? I tried it the other day and couldn't make any heads or tails out of deep targets vs shallow foil...didn't give it much practice time though. I tried switching frequencies between 4-18K and didn't notice much difference either. Was hoping that Goldfield would focus in on the foil to make it a sharper signal, thus helping with pinpointing (I don't use the center button BTW), as opposed to a deep coin which would be a smoother, more "gradual" hit. Sometimes all you need is your regular program to hear the "roundness" with a coin while shallow foil is more "clipped". Foil balls at 5-6" deep are even tougher - but if it's that deep it's getting dug regardless!

I suspect there are deeper, older coins where I'm hunting at 10" and beyond - tried the "Squealer" mode which has good potential, but time is limited on my hunts lately and don't want to try something new. One of the many things I like about this machine is the fact that I'm only running it 80-85 Sens where I could be using higher settings and lower reactivity. Got a lot of falsing on Reactivity 1 Silencer 0...wasn't doing something right. Will be interested to see how v4.0 is an improvement over v3!!!

i rarely search in gold field when coin shooting. When coin shooting I typically use it as a way to better id a likely coin that was targeted using one of my customized discrimination programs and to help with pinpointing since unlike the built-in pinpointer function, GF gives you the vco tone change but still displays the target vdi number. I don't think GF is a good program to use in trashy sites with foil or can slaw. I DO, however, use it as a search mode when hunting in relatively non-ferrous trash free fields when relic hunting, because it can help me ID a deep target (even without a vdi reading) because I can readily discern ferrous or non-ferrous using the horse shoe while listening for a faint tone indicating a deep target. If that didn't make sense, let me know and I can try to explain it better. In summary, GF not a good primary search program in trashy sites but a good pinpointing program once you have locked into a likely good target using a discrim program, GF a great deep search program in sites that may have iron junk but relatively free of foil or can slaw (e.g., relic hunting in farmland).
