I know zip about ammunition, though full metal jacket was a Kubrick movie from the late 80s. One thing I thought I knew was that you usually find just the shotgun headstamp, like tons of videos I’ve seen. So my first thought wasn’t bullet. But now it sure looks like one, a modern shell is all I know about. it is all metal. Very very thin now.

The end doesn’t have any writing left, might soak it a little in cider/white vinegar but don’t think anything is left. Thanks the all the help.

If you have a set of calipers you could measure the circumference of the shell and someone should be able to tell you the caliber.

I have one from WWii. 12 gauge. In WWii they started using brass shells because the paper hulls would swell up and not function well in the gun.

Good find! Although they were brass they still didn't last long in the ground. A lot of them came from England.

Looks like a pre Custer era 50-70 to me...too small for brass shotgun shell..

If it’s a 12 GA shotgun shell it’s likely the M19 military shotgun shell. Made in great numbers during WW2 for the Pacific Theater, still in use during the late 60’s in jungle environments. I had some in the 70’s I bought at a surplus store. This case does look a little small for a shotgun shell.
