Fulfilled a lifelong dream at Diggin' in Virginia-10 !................

Thought I would share my good fortune with y'all. I been huntin' alot of years and many a mile for this,my "holy grail" of Confederate relics. Besides a nice assortment of bullets,etc...the Culpeper Style 2 piece, tongue & wreath plate !!! DIV Events are AWESOME !! I am having a time figuring out how to use this forums reply features ! They are definitely NOT the same as what I have been using on other forums. So I will try and post my response here as a modification of my original post.I want to thank everyone for the welcome and for the congrats and kind words. I am glad y'all enjoyed seeing my "find of a lifetime". I have been answering some of y'alls questions by PM and if I can be of any further assistance just ask. Maybe I will figure out how to better use this forums features and post some of my other finds, or make them into a gallery as I have seen some have done. My best to all y'all and may you find YOUR "find of a lifetime"...HH...Virginia_Relic

That is one fine artifact.

I would also like to hear more about the recovery of both pieces.

Nice C.S. two piece.
HERE'S THE STORY copied and pasted from the Treasure Spot On and off for 35+ years ,I walked, and wished and hoped, and waited
for my personal "holy grail" of relics. I concentrate on Confederate areas and have dug a few real nice relics ,but the "grail" eluded me. Every time I would get into a patch of block "I"s or "A"s, I would think more and more of the possibility of digging it. When Enfields and Whitworths,Gardners and Ringtails begin showing themselves, I would always be thinking in the back of my mind,"Maybe this will be my time". Yet it continued to elude me ! I dug a Wreath after many ,many years of searching and was well satisfied to have dug at least 1/2 of it and when the opportunity came to search ,once again, for the CS tongue, I found yet another Wreath. I'm not complaining by any means, but I sure did long for a match to one of my Brandy style Wreaths. Once again, there came a time to dig in amongst the Gardners and Ringtail Sharps. Would this be my time? My hunting partner, Ed from Appomattox and good friend Doc Rodney ,were nearby hunting when the first beautiful signal came and about knocked my headphones off. I told them I was scared to dig the signal, but finally did, and tipped out of that Brandy Rock red iron............ANOTHER WREATH !! But this one was different. It was solid on the backside, where the others were gutter backed. I did not know until I showed it to John ,that it was a Culpeper style Wreath. I remembered what John had told me about checking real good at a "belts length" for the other 1/2 ,and that I began to do, as soon as I could stand on my hind legs once again. I hadn't moved but about 3 feet or so and BANG !...the exact same signal as I had so recently just heard. Talk about nervous ? I dug a plug about two feet in diameter, it seemed, even though I was sure and certain about the pinpoint of it. Tipped it out and seen a oval shape. I'm thinking...WOW, a US plate !, but it was a cow tag on a chain. Actually there were 2 brass oval tags on the same chain when I got it out of the dirt. What a letdown ! Back to swinging the coil. Got about 10-12 feet uphill from the spot where the Wreath was and at the base of a small tree, I got a quiet rise in threshhold. I moved the coil around the base of the tree and BANG!!!. Again ,I was scared to dig it. What came out from the hole at the base of that small tree, ended a LONG search for me and made my dreams come true. FINALLY the CS tongue, and it was a match to MY Wreath !! My chest is tight just writing about this and seeing the results here in front of me on my computer desk. I know this sounds rediculous and I never thought I would do such a thing, but I have actually been waking up in the night and looking at the "2 piece". This is "Diggin' in Virginia" for you! I have participated in every one except the first and sometimes didn't find anything spectacular. No matter... I saw SO many fantastic finds made all around me, and I was happy for those who made the finds. For alot of us, it is almost as good watching others find a great relic than to find one ourselves. There's alot of folks due, and DIV events have always been an opportunity to make your dreams come true. This was MY time ! Thanks John & Rose and all who are a part of making these events happen and continue. There is NO comparison to DIV. Others may try, and they may even learn from DIV and improve, but there is not another hunt that can ever come even close to the calibre of our DIV.

Very nice!!!Those do not pop up very often!!I am obsessed with Tongue and wreaths but from a different period and place. The wreaths seem to show up more than the tongues.I remeber the feeling I got when I dug my first complete, much like your experience, cant hardly explain it!!!!

Congratulations Again " DOC ", everytime I look at your Fantastic find, I'm envious of
you. Since I am just a newcomer to Diggin in Va. I have never found a plate of anykind,
yet. So I am very, very happy for you.

I saw another Confederate plate found, but he only found half of it. He said he dug a
pretty big hole looking for the rest of it, but never found the other side.

I'll put his picture on here, to let others know what half of a confederate plate looks like.

Again " DOC " Congratulations, hope to meet you in March. Maybe you can give me
some tips on how to detect for a plate.

Yes it was found on the same day, about 10-12 feet apart. I copied and pasted my original story from MY Treasure Spot.com and it is posted somewhere below. Thanks for your interest and as I am new to this forum, I hope this reply ends up in the correct place!
