Hey guys, today started out miserably cold but I Just had to get out, Ive only been out once this year so far and it did nothing for my itch for old coins/relics, so I headed out to my cornfield and it was cooooooold to start: IMG_20140317_093009.jpg on my way up the thermometer went as low as 19 and I thought, I don't care im going anyway lol. Only was there 2 hrs and managed about 10-11 targets and I had to work for every one of them as the ground was frozen solid under those corn stalks, dug a few pieces of lead, a few small buttons, some square nails and then FINALLY, a nice high repeatable 90-91 on the atpro, turns out it was a 1848 large cent with pretty nice detail :headbang: first LC of 2014!, it was about 4" down and I have no idea how I didn't hit it with my shovel considering I was pretty much scraping and chopping away at the ground to get it, anyhow, needless to say I was pretty pumped so I rushed to my car to get my cellphone to get a few shots of it fresh out of the ground,IMG_20140317_113206.jpgIMG_20140317_113142.jpgIMG_20140317_130832.jpg after that I had a nice high tone 88-91 and I tried to live dig it and it ended up being a junky piece of iron:laughing7:oh well maybe next time I can live dig a nice target, thanks for looking and HH!!

Great find! I would love to find a large cent!

Thank you sir:thumbsup:

these are all the coins Ive found at my favorite spot, besides the two with holes in them, they were found elsewhere, how does one find so many large cents/2 centers/shield nickels etc?, cornfields brother......cornfields lol. I would've never found all these if it wasn't for my favorite cornfield. Im only at this 18 months so far:tongue3:

What state is this?

Nice hunt, Cjon. I tried one of the cornfields after work this afternoon, but the ground was too frozen for the side digger still. Channel 16 says below normal temps next week too:BangHead:

I remember once when I decided that I was going anyway! Ice or no ice! I broke 2 shovels and a screwdriver, then limped back home. ;)

Nice find!!

At least you got a bit o green for St. Paddy's Day. ;)

id say that qualifies as a favorite spot, looks quite productive.

Congrats on the LC!

Ha ha ha , Yeah I Broke a large and a small shovel yesterday and also Limped back to the car, Still Froze solid under the 3 inches of Mud here in Endicott N.Y. ... Found My first L.C. on My very first time out w/ Garrett 350 in My front yard...1838... Waiting for the farmers to Plow the fields and hopefully I can get at them before the Fertilizer is applied ? LOL

Nice large cent! We are finally starting to melt here, a couple of weeks ago we were down below -50C (-58F).

There must of been a house or something in that cornfield, those farmers are very careful with there change. Nice find, what does the back look like? I would have loved to of found those LC's, they have come out of the field in pretty nice shape for you. Congrats!
