My buddy Rob and I visited the old homestead I have been working on. The hunt started out slow, but picked up just before dark. The 6 wheats were found first with 2-1918's and a 1920 as highlights.
I found the cow tag? next. This is the 3rd one of these we have found in the yard. If anyone can id it, let me know. I think it is a cow tag.
I popped out the 2 Mercury's next within a small area. The older one is a 1920 S.
Then I hit the highlight with the SLQ. Only my 3rd ever, and the first one with a date. I was thrilled with the hunt at this point. Sorry for the bad closeup. It is late, and I don't feel like doing better.
My last dig of the night was a three nickel spill. It sounded like a pulltab, but it had a depth of about 6" so I decided to dig. The 1948 and the silver 1943 were at the bottom of the plug. I had to root a round a bit for the buffalo 1937, which I butchered in the process. I think they were stacked on top of each other. Look at the stain on the side of the 1948. I think the silver one was sitting on top of it. How cool is that to find 3 nickels in a hole and all three be different types.
