I spent some time at the farm where I found the Militia plate that's my avatar. I have probably found 30 brass horse tack buckles on this farm and I got several more today along with a reins guide.

I consider this keyhole plate or escutcheon the find of the day. I have some more tooth picking and brushing left before I have it where I want it. It was only two inches deep in a real obvious spot and sounded like surface trash, but the farmer plowed this field two years ago, so depth really means nothing.

Here it is after I added a little wax to the high spots

late in the day I finally saw silver in my dirt pile. I snapped a picture before I touched it and was hoping for something older, but it was only a 1950 Washington. Still my first silver quarter this year, so I'll take it!

Here is the tally for the day. I'm not sure what the leafy thing is. I found it in the barnyard where most of the buckles are found. This the second one I have found here.

On Saturday I joined Thad and Louis at a site that Thad and I pounded pretty hard a couple years ago. My only noteworthy find was this marble that I eyeballed. It is really blue, so much so that light barely passes through it. Maybe I'll post it on the marble forum.

Happy hunting and stay safe everyone :icon_thumleft:

Thanks Thad. The wind was ridiculous today. I wore safety glasses to keep debris from blowing in my eyes.

Very nice hunt! The decoration on the keyhole is really nice. I have one of those indeterminate leafy things too. Cool marble.

Hey Steve, nice digs! That key hole is sweet!
Yeah, that wind was nuts!
Check out my Colonial Forum post from today, tell me what you think.

Cool relics!

Nice finds. I am not 100% certain but look up Eastlake and that will probably help to date the keyhole escutcheon.

No joking, I cut a nice round plug and it started to roll away from me by a huge gust of wind...

That's a great looking plate. Nice restoration job!

Sweet relics
