Finds started out very slim, but I was quite impressed with how many signals were left to dig considering this place was likely first hunted about 15 years ago.

My first interesting find of the day was this watch key. It was definitely a stray as it does not date to the site, but a cool trinket none the less.

3 early French relics. A glass button, musketball, and ring which is unfortunately missing the stone.

A bit over an hour into the hunt I moved to the center of the field and nailed 5 French Marine buttons in a row.

The thing that was probably the biggest surprise of the day was seeing the original thread and material on one of them! These buttons went in the ground before 1758.

And last but not least I finally got on the board with my first coin of the year.... well first coin there was actually something to see.

That was an AWESOME hunt IP. The French Coin and the buttons are real cool. How many of these type of coins you have dug?

Nice group of finds. 1600's is high up on my want list.

Nice digs for sure! The rings with the square stone turn up much less frequently than the round style.

I'm still hoping to find a French coin someday but not convinced I will at this point. I haven't found one of those French marine buttons yet either.

I have dug quite a few early French in total, but not too many Double Ts. Maybe 5 or 6 but this is by far the best one.

Nice thread.... on your button I mean. :laughing7: The fact that it still remains is unbelievable. On a side note, My buddy Mike used to call me Rob Wallace. Not really sure why as my last name is not Wallace, although my first name is indeed Rob. Your watch key made me laugh and is a nice find. Congrats IP. Nice to see you're getting out.

I'd be happy with the 1643 Double Tournois :laughing7:
Nice finds I_P

That copper really held up well for all those years.
I like the watch winder too

Wow, neat stuff especially like that old Tournois. For a second when I saw it I thought we had pulled similar coins! Keep up the good work IP

There you go, on the map...would be great to get out for a hunt like that soon... I'm due for a trip soon.. :)

Alright, IP! You are on the Colonial boards. The SM stayed home today.

Wow, way cool! Thanks of posting!

Good day buddy. Hoping to find a 1600s coin this year. As you know I'd take some Spanish silver :-) love that watch winder too. Must've felt great to have a productive hunt.

That is a sweet coin IP !!!! Should be some of them around here if I can get back n track.

1600s is great doings in these parts/ continent !!! Cool buttons also..I have yet to find one .

I had a miserable week of detecting.....out 5 times but not a thing worth posting...but we did look in a bunch of new places....gotta find a hot spot !!

Those are really awesome finds. Can't believe the thread is still on the back of that button. I appreciate you putting a reference for folks like me to see, who have little to know experience with this time period. It helps with the learning. Again thanks and congrats.
