Found a chain that weighed in @ 1.4 ounces (41 grams). It's marked 14k Italy but I think its a fake. I don't have a gold testing kit. It does have weight to it and also its discolored. It still maintains a yellow shine even after cleaning it. My luck its plated :(.

These are best shots I could get with camera phone.

Well guy I hope you don't mind here is mine to compare. I think it was a nice looking chain but look at the close pic I have up near the clasp. You can see coopper coming through on mine. Found near one the piers last year out in Newport Beach, CA after I had found bunch of pennies someone had tossed around. Wishing you best of luck.

I just found the exact chain. Obvious fake marked 14k. Bummer.

when I was airbrushing in san Antonio there was a jewelry shop next to mine, he had a bucket with the Italy snaps that was gold with 14k and silver with.925 stamped on them. the chains came on a big roll, like a thousand feet rolls, he would cut them to length..... I ask him, aren't those fakes, he said nope, the snaps are plated, so it makes it okay....he got the supplies from mexico. I found lots of these in the parks down there, all the flea markets sold them.

Ok, :hello:

The Italy stamp either (.925 Italy) or (14k Italy) is the most common counterfeit stamp there is. Many fakes of coarse flooding in from China... However, I've purchased Gold chains from K-mart and they too were marked 14k Italy... its interesting that places like K-jewelers gets their Jewelry from a very crappy wholesaler here in the USA but... K-mart gets theirs from Italy !! Anyway back to your chain, it could go both ways. The best thing to do is have it tested at a pawn shop or jewelry store... :icon_thumright:

Keep @ it and HH !! :hello2:
