I am very new to this..found a rock on the train tracks which looked to have gold flakes in it curious I decided to cut the rock open, which cut through it like butter and most of the rock crumbled into dust. So I decided to put some of the dust with flakes in water and the flakes stayed to the bottom. Not sure if anyone can give me an idea if this is truly gold? Thanks in advance

From the photos it looks like iron pyrite (fools gold) it's hard to tell. Do the gold flakes flatten when you crush them with pliers or a hammer or do they crumble? If they crumble then it's fools gold if they don't I would then test farther

Yeah if it crumbled then its not gold but good eye. If you keep that up you may find some one day.
